Founded in New Jersey under the moniker C. Howard Hunt Pen Company, Speedball is exemplified by their rich manufacturing history. Starting in 1899, the company produced steel pens, with a perfected design in 1913. The new pen was developed alongside master letterers Ross F. George and William H. Gordon featuring a nib with reservoir. The name Speedball refers to the efficiency of the pen, which cut working time in half compared to older models. Over the years, Speedball began to offer a wider range of products for a multitude of artists. The company now produces high-quality, water-based ink for screen printing and serves the ceramics community with a range of glazes, underglazes, and pottery wheels. No matter the era, Speedball’s offerings have continued to grow and evolve, with a strong dedication to providing artists with superior products and service at an affordable price.
In addition to a commitment to leading product innovation and service, Speedball also makes great effort to be an active participant in the greater artistic and global communities through organizational-based outreach.
