Goodbye motorcycle. Hello ink.
In 1976, young artist Daniel Smith sold his motorcycle and used the cash to buy an old three-roll mill machine. He set up shop in his garage, developing batches of black printing ink specially formulated for artists.
The reputation of Smith's ink quickly spread among print artists, who were tired of using ill-suited commercial inks for their projects. Three years later, his moonlight venture had become a full-time profession.
Today, Daniel Smith Inc. still makes artist-grade printmaking inks, as well as professional watercolors, oils, mediums, and other art supplies, in its Seattle, Washington facility. Delivering exceptional lightfastness and unique, highly pigmented colors, Daniel Smith paints are some of the best and the brightest on the market today.
Daniel Smith thinks like an artist, not just for the artist. With that philosophy the company continues to be an innovative force in the art community.
