Expand the possibilities of your watercolor practice with Daniel Smith Luminescent Watercolors, made by hand in Seattle, Washington. These superior-quality watercolors employ miniscule particles of titanium-coated mica to achieve their dazzling properties. Use them alone or mix them with standard watercolors for striking effects of light and color.
Daniel Smith Luminescent Watercolors are divided into three types — Iridescent/Pearlescent, Interference, and Duochrome.
Iridescent/Pearlescent colors appear almost colorless straight from the tube, but when applied over a dark ground they create a fascinating sense of depth, along with intense color and sheen.
Interference colors take on different hues depending on how the light is striking them from various points of view. For example, Interference Green looks like a shimmering, pearly green from one angle, but from another refracts a reddish hue.
Duochrome colors bounce between two distinct colors depending on the reflective light — pure visual excitement!
More highly pigmented and finely ground than any watercolor on the market, Daniel Smith Luminescent Watercolors have excellent brushing properties. All are single pigment colors with the top lightfast rating of LR I.

Brilliant luminescent color
from Idyllwild, CA
Comments about Daniel Smith Luminescent Watercolors:
I am in love with Daniel Smith's luminescent watercolors! They can be used as a light glaze for just a hint of shimmer, or layered for brilliant light. And like all the Daniel Smith watercolors, they are high quality pigment and luscious colors. Splendid for landscapes of sea and sky...

I bought duochrome cabo blue. The color was just as pictured in the online swatch, and I immediately made an artwork with the color! Stunning product! Definitely looking at buying other colors in this set!

The paint went on well. It was easy to use. It did the job well of imitating the gold leafing on an origami star that I was painting in a still life.

After finding your palette, it is fun to try something with unusual effects. Lovely - in feathers, fish scales, etc.A little goes a long way.

#sweepstakesI loved using this paint because it went on evenly without streaks yet it had a good transparency. The color is one that I couldn't find anywhere else.

Best metallic and luminescent paints I've ever used.
from Russellville, Arkansas
Big generous tubes of rich, lovely metallic colors around the spectrum. Duochrome colors are wonderful for a shimmering combination hue, iridescents for a clear spectrum and Interference colors for a glorious "soap bubble" effect with flashing complementary glimmers.I use these much more than I expected to use iridescent paints. A fine glaze over a similar color gives richness without gaudiness, a stronger concentration gives as much special effects as I want, on up to bling on Christmas cards in their splendor. Interference colors are especially good for adding a little zing to snow scenes or sea foam, clouds, anything that in nature does get a bit of sparkle. Undersea scenes are often jazzed up by a glaze of Oceanic Duochrome over the entire scene - it vanishes, doesn't seem to be an iridescence so much as feel of being under water.I have a great many of these and also use the Iridescent Gold for gold details in medieval illuminations - where the pigment load and brightness exceed anything up to and including gold gouache. It's wonderful stuff.

These Daniel Smith luminescent watercolors are simply amazing. I have added quite a few to my large palette now and I think I am addicted. Love the shimmery look, it really adds something subtle and interesting to my paintings.
I just love the added shimmer this paint gives me. It is wonderful used alone or blended. Will definitely buy more colors! Enjoy.
