The Jacques Herbin 1798 Collection commemorates a turning point in both French history and the history of the house. In 1798, the French Revolution was giving way to the rise of Napoleon, steel dip pens were beginning to replace quills, and Herbin's great-grandson relocated the Paris shop to expand production of the sealing wax and ink that had made the brand's reputation. It was in this year that Jacques Herbin introduced its own line of writing inks for the first time.

Where the 1670 Anniversary inks shimmer with gold, the 1798 Collection is illuminated with fine silver particles that lend a cooler, more mineral brilliance. Each color takes its name from a precious or semi-precious stone. Kyanite du Népal captures the bright turquoise-blue of Nepalese kyanite, a stone prized for its resemblance to sapphire. Cornaline d'Égypte draws from the warm, orange-red glow of Egyptian carnelian, a gemstone the ancients believed could restore courage and calm the spirit. Diamant Bleu evokes the rare clarity of blue diamond from India. Améthyste de l'Oural is a deep, velvety violet inspired by the amethysts of the Ural Mountains, finished with a silver mist that gives each stroke a satin sheen.

Shake gently before filling to distribute the silver particles evenly. Shimmer particles can settle in the feed and restrict ink flow if left sitting, so clean pens regularly and don't leave these inks unused in a pen for more than a few days.
