The Herbin 1670 Anniversary Collection reflects the legacy of the 17th-century French ink maker and traveler Jacques Herbin, who brought early ink and sealing wax formulas to Paris from India. Introduced to mark the brand's 340th anniversary, the line began with Rouge Hématite and has since expanded into a range of deeply saturated, character-rich colors.

Each ink is infused with fine metallic particles that settle into the line as it dries, adding subtle shimmer and visual depth that’s most noticeable on smooth papers. Paired with broad or italic nibs, several colors display strong shading and striking sheen. Émeraude de Chivor lays down as a deep teal-green but flashes red where the ink pools. Rouge Hématite shifts from scarlet to a lustrous green. The shimmer catches subtly catches the light, but never overwhelms. 

Square glass bottles are finished with a silk cord and a hand-dipped wax seal stamp, recalling the Herbin wax historically used to seal grand cru wines in France. Each bottle arrives in an illustrated gift box representing Jacques Herbin's life of navigation and discovery.

Shake gently before filling to distribute the gold flakes evenly. Shimmer particles can settle in the feed and restrict ink flow if left sitting, so clean pens regularly and don't leave these inks unused in a pen for more than a few days.
