Zinc Etching Plates are of professional quality. The 16 Gauge Plates are excellent for etching, drypoint engraving, and aquatint.
The surfaces are polished and the back has an acid resistant coating to protect acid action. They do not require stopping-out prior to etching.

Zinc Is Better for me when I use Acid.
from Keystone Heights, FL
Comments about Zinc Etching Plate:
I like zinc plates when I work with acids at the print shop where I am a member. At home I use ferric chloride and copper plate. It's just a question of when I will be fronting. Zinc is cheaper than copper so I am trending to using more Zinc. As it is now I use roofing copper that may have impurities. Buying zinc or copper from Blick assures me that it is without impurities that can goof up a print.
Bottom Line Yes, I would recommend this to a friend

Great for new etching students and reasonable cost.
Purchasing it in a store is a bit more expensive than getting it online. But the product is the same . Would like to have seen different sizes in the store.
I would buy this product again for sure!

I use these plates for etching and intaglio printmaking. The plates are very durable and good quality so that they take the etching and acid treatments very nicely. I would be careful to check before using these plates that they are tightly wrapped in protective film. I did not realize this at first, which is probably best so that they dont get scratched or damaged before you use them. They are also easy to size and cut which is ideal for different prints.
Zinc etching plate

I used the plate for intaglio printing. It was easy to use, etch and print. The plastic on the plate was a little scratched up and there were some lines on the plate before I even started processing it for the etching process. Luckily they were able to be hidden by the image. The plate was also lopsided, meaning it wasn't a perfect rectangle. One side was 12 inches, the other was about 1/3rds of an inch off.

I had to purchase a zinc plate for my printmaking class and had decided against buying the overpriced one from my college's bookstore. I saved a few bucks by buying it through Blick, but then saved even more money through the discount they were running at the time. It came really quickly and was well packed.
