Holbein laboratories is reknowned for the consistency of its professional paints. The Acryla line of acrylic polymer colors is manufactured in a vacuum to assure uniformity and consistency, to prevent bubbles from entering the paint.
Acryla colors include several unique pigments that are rarely seen in other lines of acrylic polymer paint. The Luminous colors, not rated for lightfastness, are delicate and intense flourescents that should be used only in decorative or temporary applications and for works made for reproduction. All other colors are rated "durable" or better.

Comments about Holbein Acryla Artists' Acrylics:
The pigment content of these acrylics are great! I use my acrylics very watered down at times and the color is still there. Very vibrant!

This paint is VERY heavy with pigment. More so than any other acrylic I have used. It's very soft, almost a fluid. A little goes a long way. However, it is VERY expensive. I think it is the most expensive acryoc paint available right now. There are a few colors that I love, and use all the time. The "DARK BROWN" is a unique blend. If you can justify the cost, it's a good addition to your arsenal.

Holbein paint used in this painting

I use these in conjunction with watercolor paints; in areas that I know will require a lot of layering, a heavy application, or intense coloring, these either get mixed with the watercolor paint on the palette (to make it more 'staining' or vibrant), or used by themselves. They bleed and flow just like watercolor when they're diluted, but they truly stain - there's absolutely no pulling them up once they're down, and this is wonderful in a lot of situations. The biggest problem is that, unlike watercolors, once the paint is dry on the palette, there's no reviving it (and, of course, there's no re-working it once it's dry on the paper if that's something you want to do.) They do get a bit of that acrylic 'gloss' look to them if you use them straight out of the tube, but diluting them with even just a bit of water is enough to solve that completely. In this case, they appear just as watercolor on the paper - soaked in, no different texture, no sheen. Really love these for troublesome spots and dark shadows that I know I don't want to lift or rework.
Good density, saturation.
I like the way the top fits tightly. Good seal prevents drying out paint. Wish they hadn't discontinued compose blue.

from Greenville, NY
Used these Holbein paints for a class. The paints were easy to apply and the colors retained intensity after drying. Would buy them again when I need more.

Even for a novice artist, I can see the difference between these paints and a cheaper paint The colors are true and dynamic.

I love these colors

I love the color & pigment quality in these paints. I love the violet & marigold and have not found the perfect match in another brand.

I am a highschool art teacher with a skin sensitivity to acrlyic paint. Holbein Acryla does not have the toxic binders that seem to be the cause. As a result, I have returned to acrylic painting, and using Acryla exclusively for my own work. I love the creamy consistency also. Our highschool art budget can only afford the student grade acrylic paint that Blick provides, though I suggest Holbein for the students with sensitive skin. Thank you, Holbein.
