I should have listened to the bad reviews!
By David Kachel
from Bisbee, Arizona
Comments about Hanco Ink Hanco Oil Based Etching Ink:
The bad reviews were correct, but I had to see for myself. Unusable as etching ink. Way too runny. The "Dark Brown" ink had no brown to it, at all. It is just black. Cans are only 3/4 full, and leak! A mess to even get open.
Bottom Line No, I would not recommend this to a friend

Hanco Ink - blue black etching ink
from San Pablo, CA
Hanco makes inks that are intense in color. They make good inks for printmakers. Their inks are easy to apply with just the right amount of oil - not too wet, not too stiff.
Bottom Line Yes, I would recommend this to a friend
Hanco Oil based etching inks~ the best I have used
from Friday Harbor, Washington
Hanco etching inks are loose, more fluid from the can than all other inks I have used over a span of 25 yrs of printmaking. They require only a few drops of oil for intaglio work, and can be used for relief work as well with the addition of a little Mag-carbonate. The colors are beautiful and mix to any hue. I also purchased etching silver and transparent base, the latter makes over-printing of plates easy without getting results that are too opaque, and the former turns transparent colors into beautiful, subtle metallic hues that add a whole new quality to the colors. I will try their other metallic colors soon, such as Copper and Gold. The prices are the very lowest I have found. A great bargain and a great product! I would recommend these inks to any printmaker.

Hanco Process Color Etching Inks
I used Daniel Smith oil based etching inks for decades, but they are no longer producing oil based etching inks. After searching for alternatives, I found Handco Inks to have the best palette for the best prices. I am making multiple plate color mezzotint engravings, and needed transparent inks, and chose the four process colors from Hanco. They have a fabulous consistency, much more fluid than other process inks I have used. Their transparency is superlative, and I will be purchasing some of their regular etching inks to try them out as well. Great find. Highly recommended to those printmakers who love mixing their own secondary and tertiary colors.

The worst etching ink ever
from Los Angeles
Teaching etching to college studentsNo so great. Runny, messy and a real awful in a student work space. It was more like relief ink. I will not order it again.

Not a good choice
from Clinton, NJ
I bought it because the price was so much lower. It did not work for my application.I bought 3 colors, one of which, the white, had its contents smeared on the outsideof the can. When I opened it I discovered the can was about half full. I assumed it hadleaked out and been wiped. The tape was intact. The second problem was that the ink was much too liquid. I tried adding calcium carbonate totighten it up, but it just wouldn't get viscose enough for me to use. This ink is so liquid that it would have very specific applications such as viscosity prints.Sorry. I won't buy it again.

Hanco Oil Based Etching Ink: Silver
from Portland, ME
The silver is a nice cool grey, very opaque, more pearlescent than metallic. It sits on the cotton paper I was using incredibly well, and has equally high-visible on black paper as well as white. Wonderful body, mixes with mag carb very well for thickening when necessary. No issues at all. The prints turned out beautifully.
