Golden Acrylic Gel Mediums offer artists many ways to build texture. They range in consistency from pourable to moldable with varying degrees of sheen and transparency. They can be used to create glazes, extend paints, and change finishes. 

Some gels incorporate pumice, glass, or acrylic granules that impart unique reflective, rough, or absorbent surface qualities. Gels can be thought of as colorless paint, as they are composed of 100% acrylic polymers similar to acrylic paint. 

Golden Acrylic Gel Mediums also act as adhesives in collage and mixed media projects that dry to form continuous films, offering excellent flexibility and resistance to chemicals, water, and ultraviolet light.

Included in this convenient introductory set is one 2 oz (60 ml) tube of Soft Gel (Gloss), Regular Gel (Semi-Gloss), Extra-Heavy Gel (Matte), Light Molding Paste, Coarse Pumice Gel, and Clear Tar Gel.

Golden Acrylic Polymer Varnish - Gloss, 4 oz bottle

Golden Polymer Varnish with UVLS (UltraViolet Light Stabilizers) is a waterborne acrylic polymer varnish that dries to a protective, flexible, dust-resistant surface. Use it as a final sealant over acrylic paint.

Polymer Varnishes must be thinned before use. They have been formulated thicker than traditional varnishes, to maintain an even suspension of matting agents. This ensures more consistency in surface reflectance.

Varnishes are available in a highly reflective Gloss, and an exceptionally flat Matte. The matte varnish will lighten dark value colors. This varnish is removable with ammonia for restoration purposes. For interior use only.


Golden Polymer Varnish with UVLS (UltraViolet Light Stabilizers) is a waterborne acrylic polymer varnish that dries to a protective, flexible, dust-resistant surface. Use it as a final sealant over acrylic paint.

Use Golden Molding Paste Mediums to add textured relief to paintings. Mix them with acrylic mediums and paints, such as Golden acrylics, to create thick impasto layers. This modeling paste is waterbased, non-toxic, and formulated with 100% acrylic polymer emulsions.

__Extra Heavy__ — This light gray, semi-opaque texture medium is great for building texture. It retains tool marks and peaks and dries to a slightly translucent appearance. It also mixes cleanly with color.

__Molding Paste__ — Off-white, semi-opaque, and dries to a hard yet flexible film with a satin finish. Its consistency is similar to that of Golden Gels, but is slightly more rigid because of its higher density. 

__Hard__ — Provides the hardest, opaque, matte finish. Useful for creating tough, durable finishes for smooth or textured surfaces. Can be carved with hand or power tools when dry.

__Coarse__ — An opaque acrylic medium with a sandy texture. For building surfaces or as a ground for drawing media. Retains tool marks and peaks. Crystalline appearance.

__Light__ — Dramatically reduces the weight traditional molding paste would add, while increasing flexibility. Holds peaks and dries to a soft, flexible, opaque, matte finish. Makes an excellent ground for watercolor-like techniques.

Golden Heavy Body Artist Acrylics are known for their exceptionally smooth, thick, and buttery consistency. They have the ability to "stand up" and retain brushstrokes or palette knife marks on the canvas.


The Golden Heavy Body line also contains the largest assortment of unique pure pigments in a 100% acrylic emulsion vehicle available to professional artists. There are no added fillers, extenders, opacifiers, toners, or dyes.


Each Golden Heavy Body Acrylic color is formulated differently depending on the nature of the pigment. Colors that tolerate higher pigment loads dry to a more opaque, matte finish, while colors that are more reactive and don't accept high pigment loading dry to a glossy finish and tend to be more transparent. Since Heavy Body Acrylics are free from additives (such as matting agents) the gloss of each color will be different.


Golden Heavy Body Artist Acrylics are permanent and lightfast. A hand-painted color chart is available upon request.

Golden Fluid Acrylic Paint and Sets, assorted colors, 1 oz

Golden Fluid Acrylic Paints are highly intense, permanent colors with a consistency similar to heavy cream. Produced from lightfast pigments, not dyes, they offer very strong colors with very thin consistencies, and contain no fillers or extenders. Golden Fluid Acrylics are ideal for spraying, brushing, staining, and pouring techniques.


Created for artists who want a low-viscosity, pigment-saturated paint, these paints contain high pigment levels suspended in an acrylic polymer vehicle. Unlike mixtures of heavy-bodied paints and water, they offer fine dispersion, high tinting strength, durability, flexibility, and good adhesion. 


Golden Fluid Acrylic Paints have a similar formulation, pigment load, and color strength compared to Golden Heavy Body Artist Acrylics. Fluid Acrylics have greater leveling, and they load a brush more evenly than thicker paints, resulting in a consistent flow off the brush and longer, more uniform brush strokes.


To create heavier strokes, blend Fluid Acrylics with any Golden Gel Medium to thicken the paint to various extents. Because of the thin consistency and potency of Golden Fluid Acrylics, they are the easiest of all the paint systems to incorporate into powerful gel mixtures. These paints retain excellent flexibility when dry, greatly diminishing the likelihood of cracking that occurs in other natural and synthetic polymer systems. They can also absorb the constant stress and strain placed on canvas when shipped or as it expands and contracts with changes in temperature and humidity
