A Pleasant Surprise
from Windsor, PA
I was pleasantly surprise with the level of craftsmanship. Being somewhat skeptical of buying "Medium" versus "Heavy Duty", I was happy to find that the easel is far more sturdy than I anticipated. Assembly was simple and straight forward. I am looking forward to years of service.
67 and Still Painting

The last easel I bought from Dick Blick was 17 years ago. It is still in great shape, but I needed another for another location. It took my husband and I quite awhile to put it together. You might want to develop video instructions available on the internet. It is a fine easel.

Just getting this studio set-up
a real disappointment
By Charles mott
from Atlantic City nj
I just bought this a few days ago due to the sale and I needed to upgrade for my studio space. I was extremely excited when it came cracked it open this morning to get it together. The instructions where poor at best, half the pieces where not even labeled. I managed to get everything together... my biggest low point was when I went to attach the shelf to see that the piece that allowed it to move up and down was broken. I don't know if it was due to shipping or poor care at the manufacturer. Either way I'm going to have to replace this piece myself... something I shouldn't have to do. For this reason I don't think I will recommend this to anyone else. its a solid easel, but lack of clear instructions and proper labeling and the broken piece is a real deal breaker. I'm very disappointed this is my first issue I've had with buying from dickblick, hope they will make an effort to resolve this for future customers.
Bottom Line No, I would not recommend this to a friend

Good Value, poor directions for assembling...
from Hudson, WI
Directions were awful. The entire thing needed to be put together. But it is nice and useful for a person getting into painting or a hobby painter. Good value for the price. I am happy with my purchase!
Very nice for the price
from Central WA
Very happy with this. It is sturdy enough not to wobble when I'm using it, and sturdy enough that my pets haven't knocked it over (which they have done with a lighter easel!) Good height, good adjustability. Fantastic price. Looks just fine, nice solid clear natural wood. Assembly was easy enough in theory, but the directions were unclear and in one instance, just wrong. Here is my advice for the point where you are assembling the parts that are adjustable by hand screws, and you can't tell where the little metal plates should go or how to orient the parts (I think this comes up first in step 3): The little metal plates go directly on the opposite/interior side of the wood from the hand screws... that is, the wooden easel part that is adjusted by hand screws is sandwiched between the hand screw and the little metal plate (which is packaged together with the hand screw), and the hand screw actually pushes the metal plate against the supporting piece of wood; the plate distributes the pressure and keeps you from screwing directly into the supporting part (which would damage or leave marks in it). The adjustable parts have predrilled holes to accommodate the little flanges protruding from the metal plates, but the parts have to be oriented correctly for it all to work - the predrilled flange holes will be only on one side of the adjustable part. This is not evident from the instructions (particularly at the point of assembling the center mast with its adjustable vertical slide). So proceed carefully, or you may end up having to re-do some steps! Still, without hurry or worry I got it together in about an hour by myself.

You do have to put it together, and at first all the pieces were really intimidating, but, even though there are a lot of pieces, they are all numbered exactly, and the thing went together without a hitch! It's sturdy, good looking, and big enough to support some really large canvases. I love it. In my opinion, it's a step up from the Shannon easel by W&N (which was the last one I purchased) and it was less expensive. Great purchase!

Worst easel I've ever had
from Maple Grove, MN
Pros - Cheap, easy to put together (even for one person). Fine to hold canvases once things are set and leveled.Cons - CHEAP. If you have a larger canvas on the easel, moving it up and down and keeping it level is near impossible. 2 of the little plastic feet fell off immediately as well, so this easel is lopsided. I made an unfortunate call for cheap when buying a new easel, but all I wanted was something that would hold a canvas level while I was painting so I went with this. I called the store less than 24 hours after buying to return or exchange for an upgrade and was told that once easels are out of their box, they cant be returned even though it was falling apart and not at all what I needed. Buyer beware.
Merchant response: Thank you for taking the time to write a review about your experience purchasing this easel. We apologize if there was a misunderstanding regarding our return policy, and one of our store managers has emailed you to assist with a return or exchange. We understand that an easel is an investment, and we want you to have a piece of equipment that serves you well!
Greatest easel for around $100 bucks!
from Portland, Oregon
This is a very sturdy easel that allows me to securely hold oversized canvases. It's solid wood with no particle board etc., is easy to adjust, and has totally simplified my handling of large paintings. One challenge, the instructions aren't great because it's just pictures, but I was able to put it together ok anyway. The hardware is strong and well marked in separate bags, and It even comes with two full-size screwdrivers to use for assembly. However, there are three small, flat brass panels included that are not described/shown in the instructions. At the very end I realized they are used as insets for the top clamp (1) and bottom tray (2), to allow you to tighten and loosen the adjustment knobs for tightening and loosening them when you raise and lower the canvas. They are there to prevent the screw in the knob that tightens/secures the tray and top clamp, from screwing into the wood on the mast when the knobs are tightened. Hope that helps someone, hahaha< :}
Medium duty, excellent product, excellent price
By John, Alaska
from Wenatchee, WA
A medium duty easel of excellent quality at an excellent price. I will be painting canvases in the range of 24 x 30 in.; this will be easily managed by this easel. Directions are difficult; take your time; examine every aspect of each part, look ahead continually to see how the parts fit together.
