Welcome to dickblick
Our workable, mottle-free fixative is excellent for protecting pastel and charcoal drawings between layers of color. Rework and erase if desired.

My go-to fixative.
By Natalie O.
from Shelton, CT
Comments about Blick Matte Fixative:
I use this fixative daily. I do drawings in charcoal and pastel in my sketchbooks and spray them to keep them in place. Two light coats generally takes care of it. I have not used many other brands. I have, on occasion, used Grumbacher workable and final fixatives. I found I had to spray more coats to really seal a drawing. With two coats of the Blick fixative, I can rub the drawing gently with no movement of the pastel or charcoal. The price is excellent. I buy several cans with each order from Blick.

I used this on oil pastel art for 75 students. I didn't even use one can! The spray went on evenly, but took a little while to dry. Definitely use this outdoors and allow for approx. 15 minutes to dry. Very happy with the results!

NICE JOB ON PASTEL COLOR RETENTION
from north bend, or.
I initially bought this for graphite and charcoal and it is very good - dries fast and is matte. With pastels it retains far more bright color than Krylon fixative. At the price it is a winner.
Only needed one can to go through 6 classes worth of drwings

I ordered a lot so I have a lot left over. Didn't need as much as I thought. Over spraying will take away some color on pastel drawings but still a great buy.

Great fixative for price!
By Lousy Laura
It's fixative. It is not exciting at all. I mean; what can fixative do? Fixaative does not make art nor does it lead to creativity. It sprays on to art to protect it. Well, this matte fixative works fine. It sprays well, easily and evenly. It does protect from smudging. It is matte. One can fix a layer with it and then draw atop that. It was nicely priced. Blick people are great. And it is just a (good) fixative after all.
Great for Scratch Art
from Wyncote, PA
I used this for scratch art. Protected the surface without visibly changing the look of it. I was very happy with it. It has quite an odor and should be used outside or in a very well-ventilated place. The art piece itself did not retain the odor but the spraying location did, for some time.
