These unique frames are so named because the illusion they create is that your artwork is "floating" within the frame instead of being covered by it — perfect for displaying a gallery wrap canvas where no staples are visible. The canvas easily attaches to the stretcher bars from the back side with screws.
Available in a variety of popular sizes to accommodate 3/4" deep or 7/8" deep canvases, the Blick Maplewood Floater Frame is made from genuine American maple hardwood. Every frame is hand-rubbed, giving it a beautiful, silky smooth feel and a "washed" appearance, which may be more pronounced with the Black frame. The color of these frames may vary slightly depending on the color of the natural wood.
Frame Depth — The depth of a frame refers to the depth of the frame's rabbet (the cut-out area behind the frame's molding that holds your artwork in place). To find a frame that will accommodate your artwork, measure the depth of the artwork, including any matting or mounting materials, and order a frame with a depth that is, at a minimum, the same as that measured depth.
Open Back Frames — These frames are meant to be hung on the wall and are sold as just the frame face. They are not shipped with backing material, glazing material, or hanging hardware. The open back frames are commonly used for traditional profile stretched canvases.

I would not buy these particular frames again.
I find the colors of these frames not true. The black is actually a dark grey. It was very difficult to get the frame to line up properly with the painting's stretcher bars. I made it work because I had a deadline to meet. I will not buy this kind of frame again. Black has other float frames thai I prefer.
Bottom Line No, I would not recommend this to a friend

Love my frame!

Got this frame for a picture that my daughter painted for me and it looks amazing! Really makes the picture "pop!"

Fitting a painting into the frame was easy. Removing the staples on the back of the frame that adhered the cardboard on the corners of the frame wasn't (easy)! Even my husband with a strong pair of pliers had trouble, but they finally came out.

Not great, I'd say below average quality probably made in China. The dimension at the bottom for an 18x24 frame is exactly 18x24 so it doesn't allow for any extra canvas folds. This is contrary to what customer service told me before purchase. I'm going to try to return them
Merchant response: Thank you for your review. These frames ordinarily have about 1/16" to accommodate canvas folds, and we're sorry to hear that this wasn't the case with the ones you received. Please know that your comments have been forwarded to our Product Manager, and of course we were happy to accept the return of these frames. That's our 100% Satisfaction Guarantee!
Good price for a decent frame
from Sacramento CA
It was fairly easy to mount my cradled panel in this frame. If the rabbet was slightly wider it would have been even better. I also wish that they wouldn't staple cardboard corner protectors to the frame (use tape instead), because the staples are difficult to remove without breaking them off and they leave holes and tiny scratches from the pliers.
Nice frames, good price
I am a big fan of floater frames and appreciate that Blick doesn't require you to buy them in bulk. They were well packaged and arrived in excellent condition. These frames are described as black, but the ones I received are not a true black, but more of what I would call an espresso. This is OK for me, but be aware.

Great looking frame but Problem with pre-drilled holes
I was looking forward to replacing my hand-made floater frames with this frame. On the website, it looked like real wood and didn't appear to have that shiny, cheap look that so many floater frames seem to have. I just tried it out and it's beautiful except that my 12 x 16 painting sits loosely in the frame and the drill holes are visible in the top and bottom spaces.no matter how I adjust the painting. So not only are they not usable, they're almost completely exposed to the viewer. I'm going to look for a way to fill the holes and then drill my own. I suggest to the manufacturer that they let the artist drill their own holes.
Merchant response: We're sorry to hear that the frames you received aren't working as they should, and we'd like to help you with this. We hope you'll give us a call at 1-800-723-2787 so we can take care of it for you!
Simple and Classy

This was a frame for a colorful modern art piece - it looks finished without detracting from the painting. I gave it 4 stars instead of 5 because it is a floating frame and there were no screws to attach the painting to the frame.
Framing oil paintings- good look, doesn't look cheap.

I really like the look of this floater frame. However....the pre-drilled holes extend beyond the 16x20 canvas frame so you can't screw the canvas into the frame. In lieu of drilling new holes, which may or may not work, we will probably use glue to secure the painting in the frame.
