Compared to other commercial glazes, the opalescent glazes have more depth and look less flat than the other options by the same company. They are equally as predictable and reliable in their performance (Not drippy and go on fairly evenly when either brushed or poured), but are more interesting to look at. They also layer well for even more variety when glazing.
Bottom Line No, I would not recommend this to a friend

Easy to use. Can use underglazes and glazes for layering for different effects.
Beautiful, easy to use glazes
from Winston- Salem, NC
My students and I use red clay in my pottery classes, and this fall we made many pieces with a variety of textures, including bowls with leaves pressed into them. We used the Tawny glaze, and we loved it's effects! It really highlights the textures nicely, and looks amazing on red clay. Highly recommend!
Best on Texture
By Artist and Teacher
The opalescent glazes move nicely to fill in low areas while becoming thinner on high areas to show off pressed in or carved out details. It works well to brush on, but I prefer dipping for quick, even results.
Enhance your textures
from New Albany, IN
Opalescents enhance textures and makes my student work top notch. Is hard to get translucent effects in low fire range, but theses are wonderful especially for overlaying underglazes.

Nice Product and Fast Delivery.
from TRF Minnesota
My daughter used this to glaze a heart she sculpted for her anatomy and physiology class. It came out great and the teacher was really impressed. She used it to represent the color of the pulmonary blood vessels. Fired to cone 05 on low fire red clay. Very nice results.
Love these glazes!

Opalescent Glazes Rock!
By Maid Marion
from Virginia Beach, Virginia
We use the opalescent glazes on our hand built and wheel thrown pottery year after year. We only do low fire work and love the rich colors and depth that the opalescent glazes have. They really enhance the quality of our work and add intrigue to textured clay pieces. we've used it on red & white Amaco clays to great effect. We are now experimenting with it on unfired clay to see if we can cut the time and cost down on some of our works. Also, I would love to see some changes in the way glazes are bottled and would welcome the opportunity to share my packaging upgrades with Dick Blick or Amaco. Thank you.

Fresh,creamy immedately usable glaze.
These glazes are super simple to use with predictable results but what I like about ordering from Dick Blick is it is obvious the glaze has nor sat on a shelf and separated or dried out making more work for me. They always arrive creamy and ready to brush on.
