This hard natural resin is commonly mixed with beeswax to harden it and raise its melting temperature. Adding damar resin allows wax to be buffed to a higher, more translucent sheen and helps prevent blooming (clouding on the surface).

R&F Encaustic Medium is recommended to form transparencies and extend paints. It is encaustic paint without pigment. Created with the same pure, mechanically filtered beeswax and dammar resin as R&F Encaustic Paints, it maintains film hardness.
