Preparation:
1. Use a laser printer to print the templates provided. It is important to use only a laser printer, as Inkjet prints will smear, bleed, or even wipe off the surface entirely.
Instructions:
1. Cut out the laser-printed image, keeping as close to the contours of the image as possible.
2. If you’d like to print on a toned or colored background, paint and allow to dry completely.
3. Using a wide palette knife, spread Mod Podge as evenly as possible across the surface of the canvas. The print will transfer best if a thick layer (approximately 1/8") of medium is applied.
TIP: Mod Podge Mediums dry clear, but have a milky white color when wet. This allows you to spot any inconsistencies, such as areas where the medium is spread too thin or thick.
4. Set canvas aside for approximately two minutes. The medium will begin to self-level and dry. Do not allow the medium to dry fully, as it will need to be tacky when the image is applied.
5. Place the image face down on the medium-covered canvas. Gently burnish by rubbing the back of the paper lightly with a finger, clean palette knife, or spoon.
6. Allow to fully dry. This will take about 24 hours.
7. Using warm water, gently wet the back of the paper and rub away the pulp by hand. This may take a number of passes. Each pass will reveal more of the image. Continue until all of the paper is removed, and only the printed image remains on the Mod Podge.
8. Touch up any inconsistencies in the print with a soft graphite pencil. The outside edges of the image can be cleaned up with a bit of acrylic paint.
