Dedicated to handmade integrity, Williamsburg Handmade Oils are crafted by skilled American artisans using top-quality pigments from around the world. Each of the more than 140 colors in the line possesses a unique consistency and texture — some are slightly gritty, while others are extremely smooth. This is what makes Williamsburg Handmade Oils so unique and prized by the painters who choose them.
Colors are made in small batches no larger than five gallons at a time to ensure the highest level of control. Pigments are carefully ground to enhance the beauty and luminosity specific to each, and then combined with pure, premium, alkali-refined and pH-balanced linseed oil. Every ingredient is hand-measured, and every batch is scrutinized for quality.
Most Williamsburg Oils are considered to have excellent lightfastness (LF I), with the exception of Alizarin Crimson and Van Dyke Brown, which have very poor lightfastness (LFIII).
This set is ideal for capturing the wide variety of hues, shades, and tints encountered in nature. It contains 11 ml tubes of Permanent Yellow Light, Cadmium Red Light, Alizarin Crimson, Ultramarine Blue, Sevres Blue, Sap Green, Italian Lemon Ochre, and Burnt Sienna, plus a 37 ml tube of Titanium White.
Modern Colors Set
Crisp and bright, these modern colors are an excellent choice for painters looking to supplement their traditional colors with higher chroma alternatives. The set contains 11 ml tubes of Permanent Yellow Light, Permanent Yellow Deep, Fanchon Red, Permanent Crimson, Egyptian Violet, Phthalo Blue, Phthalo Green, Quinacridone Gold Brown, plus a 37 ml Titanium White.
Signature Colors Set
Explore some of Williamsburg's most unique "signature colors" with this set, which contains 11 ml tubes of Brilliant Yellow Pale, Alizarin Orange, Persian Rose, King's Blue, Courbet Green, Italian Lemon Ochre, Stil de Grain, and French Ardoise Grey, plus a 37 ml tube of Titanium White.
Special Edition Colors
Williamsburg offers four Special Edition iron oxide colors that utilize the same pigments as standard Williamsburg colors, but are milled to a finer consistency to make them suitable for glazing. Transparent Yellow Iron Oxide is based on Stil De Grain, with a dark yellow-brown masstone that gives way to amber and light ochre when glazing. Transparent Orange Iron Oxide is based on Italian Pink, and produces a very deep red-orange masstone that results in rich orange-red glazes. Transparent Brown Iron Oxide has its origins in Dutch Brown, and results in translucent brown glazes reminiscent of coffee or tanned leather. Transparent Red Oxide is a finer version of Brown Pink, and results in red tones reminiscent of stained cherry wood when glazing.
Traditional Colors Set
Interested in exploring a more traditional range of colors? This classic palette includes 11 ml tubes of Cadmium Lemon, Cadmium Yellow Medium, Cadmium Red Medium, Alizarin Crimson, Ultramarine Blue, Cerulean Blue (Genuine), Raw Sienna, and French Raw Umber, plus a 37 ml tube of Titanium White.

Hands down my favorite line of oil paints
from New Haven, CT
Comments about Williamsburg Handmade Oil Paints:
I love everything about Williamsburg oil paints. A beautiful selection of colors that are richly pigmented and for me have the perfect consistency. They are expensive but I believe that they are worth it for the luscious color that they offer.
Bottom Line Yes, I would recommend this to a friend

Excellent quality paint
from Boston, MA
Can't go wrong with a tube of Williamsburg. The paint quality seemed slightly gummier than my alternative Gamblin paints, but it made no real difference in the painting process and worked great.
from South Dakota
I couldn't be anymore happy with all of the Williamsburg paints that I own. I like paints that are a little shorter as I can lengthen them with medium if I choose but feel like I have more control over my blending with something that is a bit shorter and stiffer. While I haven't tried all the paints that are out there I have tried quite a few and these are my go to every time. Combine that with quick shipping and great prices from Blicks and its a win win all the way around.
Iridescent and and Interference Oil Paints
from Davis, CA
I have used these kinds of paints in watercolors, and so I was delighted to see that Williamsburg manufactured both Interference and Iridescent colors. I am greatly enjoying them. They are every bit as intriguing as you might think.

I'm a traditional plein air painter and teacher, very interested in materials--refine my oil, mix my own media, make traditional gesso-- so the quality is important. These colors are expensive, no doubt, but are worth the extra color saturation and quality.

"Iris" oil using williamsburg color
from new orleans, LA
williamsburg oil paints are made from the highest quality pigments and binders with no filler. They are more expensive than may other oil paints, but are very dense, and can be extended by adding medium to make them more economical. I particularly like the French Earth set of colors. There is no better paint on the market.
I'm not sure if I would buy Williamsburg paint in the 8 oz.
Purchased an 8 oz can of ultra blue Williamsburg paint. The binder being safflower oil, which slows down drying time. When I opened the can there was a thick rubbery film about a quarter inch down the can. The can did not have a date stamp on it so I don't know when it was produced. As always DB understood and is going to replace it. Trying to contact product manager of Williamsburg paints and understand why this occurred in a sealed container and why there was no expiration date on it. I'm not sure if I would recommend this at this time.
Ultramarine pink is not so common amongst oil paint companies. WB offers a nice version of it as well as Sennelier.
Beautiful Ultramarine Pink
Few brands carry Ultramarine Pink but WB's is outstanding.
