Comments about Strathmore 400 Series Marker Pads:
This marker paper is by far my favorite. It's a medium weight so you can make solid final mark works on it- I don't understand why all the stores in NYC only carry the lighter weight. I use this paper for figure drawing with alcohol markers- either prismacolor or faber castell pitt markers
Bottom Line Yes, I would recommend this to a friend

Not for Solvent Markers!!
On their website, Strathmore specifies that this paper is for ALCOHOL based markers. I didn't know that when I bought it, and I use only solvent based markers (Chartpak). The solvent seems to break down the inner layers of the paper or something; quick stroke of marker and I'm fine, but if I leave a marker too long on one spot or try to layer too quickly it creates a spidery bleed pattern under the surface. Otherwise it mostly reminds me of smooth bristol board. With the exception of the bleeding the surface does feel pretty nice to use. It's cheap at any rate. I don't have any alcohol markers to test it with, so I tried to give it the average number of stars to not skew the average too much.

Paper is not a nice bright white, rather drab. Dents a bit too easily. Paper burnishes from minor clutzy moments with the ruler, draft board. For its nice feeling weight and heft, its rather easy to mar. Bought this as an inexpensive alternative to vellums, learned my lesson once more about getting what you pay for. Will spend a bit more for something more durable and more clean for black fine liner pen drawings as my most typical project. #sweepstakes

I use copics markers on this sketchbook and the colours look very vibrant and they blend very well!! It is the best sketchbook I've used with copics so far! Be careful though! The colours do bleed if you blend them too much! Just place a pad underneath the paper!

Great paper for blending
from Seattle, WA
I've used a LOT of different papers over the years with my Copic markers and this very quickly became a favorite of mine. It blends well, it takes the colorless blender beautifully, and it just keeps going. I also love that it comes in huge sizes.Any good marker paper that's going to take ink and blend well is going to absorb a bit more ink than a traditional bleedproof marker paper, so do be prepared for that. Because this one is a bit thinner than some papers, it will bleed through, so always keep some scratch paper underneath whatever you're working on.

Waste of marker ink and money
By sad smudges
from Atlanta, Georgia
I don't know what Strathmore was thinking when they designed this paper. It takes about 5 times as much marker ink as other papers to achieve an even tone, ie not show stroke marks. This paper guzzles up marker ink like a bottomless hole, but does a poor job of diffusing it.Furthermore don't bother trying to ink on this paper. I use an inking brush or brush pen to outline pieces, then color with copic markers. When I tried drawing thin lines of ink on this paper, it just sat on the page, taking about 20 minutes to be absorbed. On other papers I use, these lines would be absorbed immediately and wouldn't smudge.Unless you want to waste marker ink and have a piece full of smudges, don't waste your money on this paper.
