Stop worrying about canvas frames that warp or bend. With Museo Alu-Frame Aluminum Stretcher Bars, your artwork remains tightly framed — even under extreme conditions. This museum-quality canvas framing system is especially good for artists creating large-format and/or heavy works.
The stretcher bars feature a reinforced structure comprised of wear-resistant aluminum and sturdy wood for maximum stability. Unlike all-wood stretcher bars, aluminum bars are unaffected by changes in humidity and temperature. They won't twist, bend, or warp.
Thanks to its modular structure, a Museo Alu-Frame is simple to assemble and disassemble. Easily break down your canvas for transport and save on shipping costs. The lightweight aluminum stretcher bars weigh less than heavy-duty wood frames.
Museo Alu-Frame Aluminum Stretcher Bars are sold in pairs. They're available in two profile sizes — 15/16" (25 mm) or 1-3/4" (45 mm).
To properly assemble the canvas frame, certain accessories and hardware (sold separately) are required. Those parts include:
Inner Cross Brace Connectors
Required to connect intersecting cross braces to each other. You need two inner connectors per intersection. Sold in a pack of four.
These pieces add strength to the corners of larger frames and are recommended for works bigger than 72" × 72" and for 60" × 80" or 48" × 96" frames. Sold in a pack of eight (two for each corner).
Basic Assembly Kit
This kit contains all the pieces required to assemble a non-braced frame. It includes four corner connectors, one stretcher (for keying the canvas), two screw eyelets, and one Allen key. You need one Assembly Kit for each frame you build.
To build the frame, slip a stretcher onto either end of a corner connector and tighten the screw with the Allen key until you reach your desired tightness. Repeat the process at the other three corners. Use the screw eyelets for easy hanging. Screw them into the frame and string a hanging wire (sold separately) between them. These hangers are recommended for works smaller than 72" × 72".
4" Extenders, Pkg of 2
Attach two stretcher bar lengths together using an extender to make a frame up to 204" long. Extenders are available for both profile sizes and sold in packs of two.
For optimum suspension, these hangers are recommended when hanging works larger than 72" × 72" as well as 60" × 80" or 48" × 96" frames. Sold in a pack of two.
Reinforce larger frames with cross braces, which can be added without having to completely disassemble the outer frame. The vendor recommends cross braces for frames larger than 72" × 72". For the correct fit, order the cross brace in the same size as your stretcher bar. (The actual measurement of the cross brace will be shorter, but it will be sized to fit inside the assembled frame.) For intersecting cross braces, artists will need to further trim the brace to size themselves with a band saw. Cross braces are sold individually.
Outer Cross Brace Connectors
These pieces are required to connect a cross brace to the outer frame. You need two outer connectors per cross brace. Sold in packs of two or four.

Use the stretcher (or spanner) to extend your Museo-Alu Frame at the corners and tighten your canvas. Start by attaching the stretcher to your frame against one of the corner connectors using the Allen key. Next, loosen the corner connector so the bars can move, then tighten the frame by pushing the stretcher down towards the corner. When you achieve your desired tension, re-tighten the corner connector and remove the stretcher. Repeat the steps for all four corners of your frame.
This kit contains all the pieces required to assemble a non-braced Museo Alu-Frame canvas frame. It includes four corner connectors, one stretcher, two screw eyelets, and one Allen key.
Outer Cross Brace Connectors are required to connect a cross brace to the outer Museo Alu-Frame canvas frame. You need two outer connectors per cross brace. They're sold in packs of two or four.
For optimum suspension, Heavy-Duty Hangers are recommended when hanging works larger than 72" x 72" as well as 60" x 80" or 48" x 96" frames. Sold in a pack of two.
Corner Stabilizers add strength to the corners of larger Museo Alu-Frames and are recommended for works bigger than 72" x 72" as well as 60" x 80" or 48" x 96" frames. They're sold in a pack of eight (two for each corner).
Attach two Museo Alu-Frame Aluminum Stretcher Bars lengths together using an extender to make a frame up to 206" long. Extenders are available for both profile sizes — 15/16" (25 mm) and 1-3/4" (45 mm).
Inner Cross Brace Connectors are required to connect intersecting cross braces to each other. You need two inner connectors per intersection. They're sold in a pack of four.
