Now the papers that inspire artists' work can support it, too. Canson Montval Watercolor Art Boards feature best-selling Montval watercolor paper on rigid, archival backing for a variety of media and techniques.
Each Canson art board is as rugged as it is beautiful. And because the paper is mounted on white, acid-free, lignin-free, archival conservation board, the board is both durable and enduring.
Canson Art Board is ready for framing without mounting, eliminating a step as well as the added expense. The art finished on acid-free paper is displayed and protected on two-ply, 1.2 mm archival Canson conservation board, making self-preservation simple. Buffered, without optical brightening agents, and treated to resist mold, these art boards are compliant to ISO 9706, the standard for permanent paper.
This is an ideal substrate for watercolor, acrylic, gouache, or ink washes. Montval art board features natural white French watercolor paper with a cold press surface.

Good surface at a Good Price

Comments about Canson Montval Watercolor Art Board:
I am beginning to work with larger surfaces for watercolors. I like the flat surface on the Canson art board. It is easy to work on. I have no problems with it at this point.

Love the product and the company
from New Mexico
Perfect surface for what I'm doing. I have saturated some of the pieces while working on a painting and they warp but then after lying stacked for a while flatten back out without harming my work. I don't like canvas but like the freedom to use as much or as little paint as I want to and the Montval Watercolor Art Board takes the 'abuse' well!

Convenient, affordable, stable
By part-time pro painter
Through their customer-service response, A blick representative recommended these for my purposes: Water media painting. I specifically asked for a watercolor board that was rigid, did not warp but that was also affordable. So, on that recommendation I tried some ( in the three-pack) and man... am I glad I did! It behaves exactly like good watercolor paper, which is what I want, except that it does not wrinkle, buckle or "cockle" as the British say. You can just clip it to your easel and GO! When inspiration strikes, THAT is what I want. No waiting, no taping, stapling, pre-wetting, drying... Is it "perfectly" flat and rigid? No... If you get it wet enough, or wet it very unevenly, the board will bend a little, especially if you do not clip it to something rigid. But it never gets those wash-destroying wrinkles. I have tried three other brands, and so far, this is my favorite one for performance and value. It won't cost you much to try a couple to see for yourself.

I love this board. For years and years I've had trouble with watercolor paper warping and only staying flat once it is mounted or under heavier items. The board is the best of all possible worlds - the finish had just enough texture to hold the color and the board is firm without being inflexible. It takes color really well, and you don't have to put it in a frame right way, but when you feel like it or can afford one. Love it!

Great paper for large watercolors
I love this paper and use it for 30"x 40" paintings... it holds up to really wet washes and can easily be reworked. I prefer it to Arches.
