Welcome to dickblick
Made of fine-quality solid wood with a lovely natural woodgrain, Blick Essentials Gallery Wood Frames are ideal for when you want your artwork to do all the talking.
With a depth of 1½" (25 mm), they'll also accommodate stretched canvases beautifully. These frames ship with a styrene face as styrene is lighter than glass and less likely to shatter in transit. The styrene face has a protective film on both sides that protects it from scratches and smudges. The film should be removed before displaying your art.
Blick Essentials Gallery Wood Frames are available in Black, Walnut, White, and Natural finishes.
Color Matching — We do our best to match the color of frames, both on our website photography and in our catalogs, but differences in technology may affect the appearance of the photo on your screen. You are entitled to return, for refund or credit, any frame that does not meet your expectations.
Frame Depth — The depth of a frame refers to the depth of the frame's rabbet (the cut-out area behind the frame's molding that holds your artwork in place). To find a frame that will accommodate your artwork, measure the depth of the artwork, including any matting or mounting materials, and order a frame with a depth that is, at a minimum, the same as that measured depth.
Frame Dimensions — Frames are sized by the opening, not by the outside of the molding. To determine the size of frame to order, measure the outside of your artwork, including mat, and order that size frame. The frame will overlap your artwork ¼" all the way around, so your artwork will fit nicely behind the frame's molding.

Comments about Blick Essentials Wood Frames:
Beautiful frames but could leave the cheap plastic windows out of deal. I need to replace with glass. Otherwise, great deal.

Often don't fit with Blick Premiere Canvases
from Juneau, Alaska
I have been buying these Blick wood gallery frames for 20 years. They used to be made out of a cheap material that was heavy and chipped easily but now the quality is much much better. They are now made from real wood (not particle board) and are much lighter and don't chip nearly as easily. The down side is that many of the frames are too small to fit the Blick Premiere Canvases (traditional profile) that i buy in the same size. Of my last batch of frames, half of them were too small. I didn't find out until I was preparing my paintings to hang at the gallery, so it was pretty frustrating as I have to order these by mail and there's no where to get this kind of frame locally. I ended up needing to use a small wood planer and chisel (that I had to purchase out of desperation) and spent hours filling up my studio with wood shavings before I could shoe horn the canvases into the frames. For example, I had 4 or 5 paintings sized 11"x14" and none of them would fit into the 3 11"x14" frames. Two I had left over from a previous show fit fine. Same with two large 30"x40" frames! I had to shave off a full quarter inch from one horizontal and one vertical side of the frame, and in addition to the second large frame being too small, it arrived with a big very visible dent in the wood. When these frames arrive undamaged and with a little wiggle room for the canvases, they are absolutely perfect for my needs...but I get so frustrated that there isn't more consistency. It's too much hassle and expense to ship them back when they don't work out. If you live near a Dick Blick and can take back ones that don't fit, it's probably not as big of a deal.

Got the Job Done!
Arrived in good shape. Product is nicer than I expected. Looks great. Popped my picture in and added a wire to the back using standard hardware. No problems.

This frame has two places to attach the back. The lower one for canvas boards (1/8") and a higher one (3/4") for stretched canvas. I purchased the size for the canvas boards and they were quite tight to get in the frame -- I had a dozen to do so it was noticeable -- As it happens, the canvas boards are more like 3/16" and the backing did not fit without bending the little holders, on the other hand, as they were so tight in the frames it was not really necessary to use the points to keep the canvas board in the frame. So they worked, but with some difficulty. They are not going in an art gallery so it will not matter, therefore, a good frame for the money.
