Arches papers aren’t just for watercolors. Also Use them also for drawing, calligraphy, gouache, printmaking, acrylics, and even digital printing. Manufactured from pure cotton fiber, they are so durable that they will remain beautiful and vibrant for centuries without conservation, if stored and handled properly.

Arches is the product of five centuries of papermaking experience. Arches watercolor papers are mouldmade in France, with 100% cotton fiber content. They are acid-free, pH-neutral, gelatin-sized, and air-dried. You can rely on Arches to always be consistent.

Arches Watercolor Blocks contain natural white, mouldmade watercolor paper that is cut and tapebound in convenient blocks. Sheets are 140 lb (300 gsm) weight, with 20 sheets per block. Several sizes of Cold Press blocks are also available in a 10 sheet, 300 lb (640 gsm) variety.

Love these BLOCKS!

I have been using Arches watercolor blocks for years. The transportability is the magic! I can close the cover and bring my work with me without worry. No taping down or worrying about stretching.
The paper is a perfect weight. I can finish a painting on the block,, remove it and easily glue/mount the piece onto a wooden panel for easy display.
The biggest issue though is the glue around the outside. One small drop and the glue splits I've found the solution: when the block is brand new - use a thin coat of gorilla glue (activated with water). Let it dry overnight and - no more split blocks!

"Blocks" aren't best

The best watercolor paper one can buy is the heaviest in weight and in large sheets that can be cut down into smaller sizes, like 600 lb. paper. There is no buckling in heavy paper. I found buckling in this block, and I won't buy another.

However, blocks are convenient and easy to carry from one place to another, but only when watercolor is used sparingly and in small areas that do not require using much water.

Problem solved with edge adhesive

I had to return three 18" x 24" watercolor blocks earlier this year because the adhesive around the edges was split in places, not holding the sheets to the backing. Two returned online and one to a Blick store. I emailed Arches and learned they found a new glue source and were working to improve the product. They sent me three blocks for my trouble, even though I explained that Blick had already refunded me! Got them today, and I can see the adhesive is solid, no splits, I am very pleased and looking forward to working with the paper, finally!
