Learn about our paint swatches, where to find pigment information on our site, and more.

In order to provide you with the truest and most accurate color information available, we create real, individually-painted color swatches for every line of paint we carry. Swatches are then photographed and optimized for our website, making it easy for you to find the color you’re looking for.*

  • Where to Find Paint Swatches on Our Website

Click on the paint color you wish to see a swatch for under the “Shop Products” tab on our paint product pages.

This will take you to a page for that color. Hover over the image of the product and accompanying swatch to see a magnified version.

  • About Our Paint Swatches

Our paint swatches vary in appearance depending on the type of paint used to create them. Oil and acrylic paint swatches typically display a range of colors, representing a heavy application, medium application, and tint mixed 50/50 with Titanium White.

For paints such as gouache where a heavy application may not be appropriate, there will only be two variations: full strength and tint. In cases where white is not commonly used, as with watercolors, the swatch will show a heavy application and diluted application.

For paints that are typically used without mixing or diluting, such as those used by children, the swatch will show only a full strength application.

  • Pigment Information

In addition to color swatches, we’ve gathered together the most detailed pigment information available for every color that we carry. To find pigment information, click on the color you’re searching for under the “Shop Products” tab on our product pages.

Select the “Pigment Info” tab under the product image, then scroll down to view Pigment Information, including the Pigment Name, Pigment Type, Chemical Name, Chemical Formula, Properties, Permanence, Toxicity, and History.

*We have done our best to represent every color on our website as accurately as possible. Please be aware that due to differences in users’ monitors, the colors presented will be an approximation of the true color. If exact color matching is necessary, use actual samples of the materials.
