Create a handmade watercolor journal of your own! Learn a combination of book making and watercolor techniques, featuring Yasutomo Pearlescent and Chinese Watercolors. Learn how to make a book cover using binder’s board, then use rice paper to put the finishing touch on your handmade journal.

Instructions

  1. Using a broad flat hake brush, paint a large watercolor wash and allow to dry completely before removing it from the block.
  2. Fold the watercolor paper into sixteen equal sections, then unfold.
  3. Cut three straight slits in the watercolor paper with scissors.
  4. Accordion fold the sections to create the pages of a book.
  5. Cover the book board using glue with decorative paper, and miter the corners.
  6. Glue the endpapers of the book to each cover.
  7. Using the Niji Waterbrush, paint botanical sketches your journal using Niji Authentic Chinese Watercolors and Niji Pearlescent Watercolors.
