About R&F
R&F Handmade Paints, an artist-run company, was established by Richard Frumess in Brooklyn, New York, in 1988. The founder's approach to art, in his own words, was "imbued with the romance of material." Richard’s passion for material resurrected the medium of encaustic paint, made of beeswax, damar resin, and pigment. He introduced artists to an extensive line of unique colors and, more importantly, an entirely new approach to applying color. The brand's most iconic offering is their Pigment Sticks, richly pigmented oil sticks with a lipstick-soft consistency, designed to provide a painting experience of effortless application and immediacy. To this day, R&F Handmade Paints remains committed to its origins by producing unique artist’s colors using time-tested paint-making methods.
