Lightly sketch the owl and autumn leaves with a Caran d'Ache Supracolor Soft Aquarelle Pencil. I prefer using a light color that will easily blend in as I paint.
Paint in a light layer of color on the owl, branch, and leaves using Caran d'Ache Neocolor II as watercolor with the Caran d'Ache Museum Aquarelle Waterbrush and Caran d’Ache Palette. I’ve chosen a color scheme of Blues, Oranges, and Yellows.
Using the Yellow and Orange Neocolor II pastels that are scribbled on your palette, very loosely paint in your leaf shapes with the watercolor brush. It’s okay for this part to be a little messy. We’ll tidy it up soon.
Darken the Blue on your palette with some Blue from the Caran d'Ache Gouache Studio Set and use it to define the wing and head shapes of the owl. Add a few lines to define the tail feathers too.
Mix the Blue, Yellow, and Orange that are already on your palette with a bit of Orange and Blue from the gouache set. You’re aiming for slightly muted autumn tones here. Use them to paint more defined shapes for your autumn leaves.
Using a Caran d'Ache Luminance Colored Pencil in a Blue tone, start drawing in branches and leaf details. Use Orange and Brown Luminance pencils to add details to the owl’s face, wings, and body.
Grab darker versions of your Blue, Yellow, and Orange Neocolor II pastels and use them to roughly add bits of texture and detail over the owl and the leaves. Also draw in some extra leaf details with the Neocolor II or a Luminance pencil.
Using the tube of White gouache from the pan set, add final details and contrast to the owl’s face, eyes, and feathers.
Sit back and enjoy your lovely creation!
