The price was perfect! Even with shipping charges, it was cheaper than alot of the other art stores I purchase from. I love how sturdy the easel is, and the fact I can paint larger pictures with it.

Initially this seemed like a dream product: small footprint, wheels, lies flat, adjustable tilt. Unfortunately, when I took it to a workshop, the wheels kept falling off. Some months later, one of the shelves wouldn't grip; like other reviewers found, the screws were stripped. I called Blick about replacement shelves, but they said they couldn't get them from overseas. Now, maybe for the price that's what you get. But if I'd known this was going to happen, I wouldn't have gotten it. I might try that C-clamp thing, though.

For it's price, this was a very nice product until, like my fellow one-star-reviewer, the clamps began to break on me. I believe it was a problem with the screws becoming stripped, but I'm not sure--I am not an expert of screws, nuts, bolts, moles, voles, or any other small things. All I know is that after about three months of use, one of the clamps would not clamp, and then the second clamp followed shortly thereafter, and the third one about a year after that. A minor disaster, to be sure. Luckily, I happened to be in possession of several idle c-clamps, and by using these I was able to jerry-rig my easel back together again, like Humpty Dumpty. However, had I been such an unfortunate and pitiable person who did not had access to several c-clamps, I would have soon been in possession of a product that would have had few uses other than either kindling for marshmallow fires or my steam engine, or perhaps a projectile for fending off hoards of time-travelling barbarians, if it was fired at high velocities from a well-made catapult, of course.

So, in conclusion, I would advise one not to buy this product, unless they are feeling lucky, or want to buy something that might collapse on them in the not-so-distant future. All the positive reviews for this product would certainly seem to indicate that my experience with this product is an anomaly, and it probably is, but nevertheless, it is only fair for me to judge this product by my first-hand experience of it, and by that experience I must say that this product does not merit my Approval of Quality. It worked A+ perfectly until the clamps began to break, but after that, not so much. Add to this the fact that the manufacturer of the product will not provide replacement parts because "the cost of tariffs, customs, and shipping and handling from foreign vendors are not economically feasible for the customer or Blick" (How do they know? Perhaps I'm a billionaire.) and I have no choice but to give this product a standing of Epic Fail (It works with the C-clamps, but those did not come with the product.). I thought I was getting a good deal on it, but, alas, I was wrong.

Oh yes, and one other thing: the wheels on this device did not roll too well, and one of them for a long time did not roll at all. Perhaps I had them clamped on too tight, perhaps not, but in my mind a truly effective product would not have allowed for the possibility of such a problem. But then again, perhaps I'm daft.

This easel is very stable (no need for sandbags) and the wheels are sturdy and smooth. It can hold large canvases and can be tilted to a 90 degree angle like a table which is great. The only cons are that the bottom ledge that the canvas rests on is adjusted by only one knob so if you're not careful, you can tighten it crookedly. There's nothing that guides it to move up and down straight. Also, it comes with three ledges which I'm not sure about. I took off the middle one and use the bottom and top only since my avg canvas size is at least 18 X 24.

Nice weight, although very wobbly. I suggest leaving the wheels off and using sand bags. Canvas clamps are not very stable and tend to droop to one side unleveling the canvas, they also do not have a lip or rubber nobs for traction to hold canvas in place. Do not purchase this easel if you stand and paint since there is no lock to hold it from slowly leaning backwards into table mode. If you are a handyman you can fix these problems but better to spend a little more and get a trustworthy easel. You get what you pay for but not my best purchase.

I would really like it, if the secure knobs were in the center of the mast instead of the side, because if your canvas is a little heavy it makes it fall since the support is on it side.

I just put this easel together. Wish there were more specifics on how to assemble the wheels (like what comes next ~ a nut or a washer, etc) but you dont have to be an Einstein to figure it out. A nice looking easel and perfect for a corner in my small studio space. Its actually smaller than I expected but it held my 22X28 canvas very well. Smooth and super easy to adjust to any angle. I gave it a 4/5 stars for the following reason: Im 5'3" and my painting board sits a few inches too high for my comfort if I use this easel in the horizontal position for watercolors. A big bummer since I thought it would be useful for various mediums and w/c is what I primarily do. Im forced to use this easel as a specific space to paint oils and acrylics but that's not really a bad thing. Better to keep my watercolor stuff separate from all the other junk anyways. If you're taller than me, this function of the easel may work better for you. Aside from that downfall, the color of the wood is very pretty - not the least bit yellowish - just a soft natural wood color (waiting to get paint all over it). All around nice easel. DICK BLICK COMES THROUGH AGAIN! Easels available in my small town were too expensive for the quality provided. I needed to hold a larger canvas and this is more than adequate.
Importantly, it makes the painting experience more enjoyable by getting my work surface off a big flat table. One can paint seated or standing up. It does convert to hold a canvas or watercolor board in a table position for washes and aquamedia.
There are no set-up instructions included, but you don't have to be a rocket scientist to get it done. The little brass plates in the box go behind the adjustment knobs for tension.
Too heavy for plein aire ; this is a heavier inside-studio easel with handy wheels. I'm quite happy with my purchase.
