Welcome to dickblick
They are simple, functional, and beautiful. Each one is constructed of hand-rubbed, oil-finished, solid red oak. That's why Best's Dulce Easels are among the most popular easels we've ever carried.
Dulce Easels are moderately priced, yet elegant studio easels for the serious painter. Their H-Frame construction and laminated quad base allow them to support larger works. Adjust them to a variety of settings for sitting and standing.
The rubber, non-skid feet can be fitted with locking casters as an option. The base folds flat against the frame for easy storage and transport.
Note — Minor assembly is required.
Best's Classic (Original) Dulce can support an 82" (208 cm) canvas. Overall size is 22" wide and 24" deep (56 cm × 61 cm). It can be expanded from a minimum height of 54" (137 cm) to a maximum height of 90" (225 cm).
Unlike the Giant Dulce, the Classic meets the weight and size requirements of small-package common carriers, so it can be shipped to most destinations at lower cost than truck shipment.
Best's Giant (or Deluxe) Dulce is for artists who work on a really grand scale. It has wide H-frame construction to accommodate paintings of virtually any width, and up to 82" (208 cm) high. The Giant Dulce increases the area of the base by almost 50%, providing the support and stability needed for a wide canvas.
Optional Set of 4 Plastic Casters
Set of 4 casters (2 regular and 2 lockable), makes it easier to move an easel around within the studio, even while it is in use.

I've had my Best Dulce easel for 15 + years
Comments about Best Dulce Easels:
Over 15 years ago I bought my easel. It's exactly identical to the one here. Except mine only has 1 knob on the bottom tray. It used to slip until I modified the bottom to put adjustable braces on the frame to secure the bottom tray. Now it will hold a 50 lb. panel. The top clamp worked great until the screw stripped from excessive use. I contacted Best after owning this easel for over 10 years. They sent me a brand new clamp immediately. Excellent customer service. The easel comes ready to go, but if you're going to tax it's capabilities, be ready to modify it some. It's a ready made easel for beginners, but if you like to go large, add "L Brackets, (only one screw so you can easily slide it out of the way to lower the bottom tray) on the bottom tray and it's perfect for ANY support.
Bottom Line Yes, I would recommend this to a friend

I hate this easel
from Los Angeles
After a couple years of use, this easel no longer stays tightened, and so if I fail to remember to tighten the T bar that holds the easel in place, which I often do because I'm not thinking about the easel, I'm thinking about the painting, then the painting, when I turn my back, will simply tumble off the easel. Not a small matter when you're working on large paintings. I can't tell you how many times my paintings have fallen off this easel. I absolutely hate it.
Bottom Line No, I would not recommend this to a friend

Classic Original Dulce Easle
from tulsa, oklahoma
The easle is relatively easy to put together after shipping, however, make sure you understand before starting that step 1 is at the top of the instruction sheet, step 2 is at the bottom, steps 3 and 4 are in the middle of the page and step 5 is to the left side. They are NOT listed in sequential order. The second factor is to make sure you look at the drawing on the instruction sheet. It is easy to install the 6 screws with the easle facing backwards. One suggestion for the manufacturer is that the bottom easle tray would be easier to adjust up and down if there were equal sized notches up the back of the easle to make sure the bottom try is straight across the bottom. Otherwise, it requires a level.

OK. Not the Best
from New York, NY
Not recommended for painting on masonite panels or paintings sized 24" and up. For larger work where you would need to raise and lower the painting, there are two height adjustments handles so if they are not turned evenly one side of the base will slip down and it becomes difficult to raise and lower the painting while keeping it level. So if you move the height of your painting often, this is not the best easel. I regret that I have mine.

One of the BEST!
Well, got one and started (after many years) to paint!....My first Mansonite panel mounted on Blick's Heavy duty frame, measuring 48x30 inch....no problem at all to hold it in place...I say it's a GREAT value for the $$$$.

A Good Value with a Limitation
I have had the oak Giant Dulce for several years now—and the bottom tray has fell 3 times during the first year. Now I make sure that the tray is level (I got a small level from the hardware store) and I really tighten up the screws on the tray. My tray has 2 large black knobs on the front to tighten down the tray. I assume the current ones do too. This is going to sound really weird, but I put plastic bags over both trays and learned that you can hear slight crinkling sounds just before the tray falls. That gave me just enough time to grab the tray before it fell very far!If I ever get another easel I will buy one with a winch, but cost made me choose this one. I really do like it. It is very stable, has a groove in the tray to hold panels, and can be put in a true vertical position. But, I always move my wet canvases to another easel to dry. I do recommend this easel for canvas and lightweight panels.

Good but one serious flaw
from Central Coast CA
I have had this easel for a couple of years, and like it very much, especially the size. I got casters at the local OSH, which fit perfectly, and were much less expensive than Richeson's option.THE MAJOR CON: I am experiencing a problem that has become extremely frustrating. The clamp that holds the tray/platform that supports the painting surface (canvas, panel, etc.) will not hold tightly enough, so the canvas just sinks the platform when placed on it. I have tried all kinds of remedies, including using a pliers, but it doesn't make any difference. When I tried to get in touch with Richeson Customer Service using an email link from their site, but the email was returned as undeliverable. Now I wish I had purchased an easel with a winch to raise and lower the platform, even though it means having less space in my small studio. If it were not for the clamp problem I would recommend the easel for its good quality and price.I do not consider this problem related to anything Dick Blick has done, but it is really annoying. Has anyone else had the same issue? If so, what did you do to fix it - beyond replacing the easel?
