GREAT ART MATERIALS!

Comments about Canson XL Pads:
I really enjoyed how easy it was to switch mixed media, and the paper didn't curl up a lot when it was wet.

I love the Canson XL watercolor pads. They really hold up to paint and water!!!Not the best quality paper, but good enough for so many uses. It is the perfect collage substrate and collage piece maker.
Good Deal for Student-Grade
from New Orleans
This level of quality is not high-high-artist standard, but it's definitely worth the price. I run through these XL-series watercolor pads by Canson at a very fast pace, covering sheet after sheet (both sides) and maximizing "brush mileage" to get a lot of practice in. I wouldn't try to scrub-out a mistake much, or to use this for final artworks much. It's perfect for practice and throw-away and at this price it's the best deal anywhere for square inches of watercolor paper that you can actually use per US dollar and penny.

Canson xL watercolor pad is good but not the best for water coloring, smaller size pads work better then the larger pad.
Inexpensive paper for daily drawing practice
I am working on developing a daily drawing practice. I bought this Canson watercolor paper on a recommendation I saw in a Stan Fellows blog. He has this paper in his supply list for workshops. It is a smooth paper (cold press), 140 pound. I don't think it could take the beating I usually give my 140 lb Arches cold press, but I think it is a very good paper for drawing and adding a bit of watercolor. Given the inexpensive price, you don't have to be intimidated by the chance of ruining an expensive sheet.
Good quality multi media pad.

For my art journal I always use Canson multi media pads. Since I gesso anyway, it's a good weight for my purposes, and with gesso acrylics, inks, Water soluble crayons won't bleed through.
Judge this book by its cover
By Art Teacher
I love this book. I recommend the 9x12 size for my students. The 98# paper holds up to most stuff we do (paint, ink, watercolors, washes, all dry media, etc.) and the thick front and back covers with the wire binding means this book will last for a LOOong time...which is saying something for the abuse it takes knocking around in a high schooler's backpack. My one and only complaint is the page count. I wish it had a few more pages (maybe 80ish) since they go quickly. My students typically fill two of these a year. It's a good price though so I really can't complain too much and 60 pages are more than are in a lot of other books by other manufacturers with this same/similar paper weight. Plus, the inside of the front cover is white so with a little finagling, you can remove the front cover, flip it over, and reattach it so they can decorate their front covers. Overall, this is a GREAT sketchbook that truly will withstand a mixed media approach.
