The Mixed-Media Pad is Excellent Quality
By PA Artist
from Williamsport, PA
Comments about Canson XL Pads:
I am absolutely in love with the quality of the paper in the mixed-media pad. It's an excellent value. I was using Arches cold press for virtually everything but this paper is a suitable substitute for my less labored works. I highly recommend it.#sweepstakes

Love these sketchbooks
from Portland, OR
I buy these pads whenever I find a good deal on them because I use them all the time. The size is right for me to carry around and I like the paper for everything from pen & ink sketching, to graphite and colored pencil use, to the use of light water-based media. It holds up well and is inexpensive enough that I can do a lot of testing and experimenting, and while I don't normally like spiral binding, if there is something I want to save or re-use, it's easy to tear out.
Always Great Sketchbooks
These Canson XL Pads are such a great deal. With so many different applications and sizes to choose from, they've got it pretty well covered. While there are other sketchbooks I'm drooling over for specific uses, these are the ones to go to for everyday sketching and art. Hardcover front and back, strong spiral binding, perforation, good quality and recycled materials - these have all you need.I'm using the Mix Media 12" x 9" now. The paper is nice and thick and stands up excellently to ink, colored pencil, and light watercolor washes (such as with watercolor pencils). I doubt it would stand up to a heavy watercolor wash, but it wasn't designed for that anyway. The texture is just rough enough to give a nice grip while still smooth enough for even penciling. Happy sketching!

Canson XL watercolor pad--my favorite
from Pasco, WA
Love this pad. Paper not overly toothy, which is a problem I've had with some cold press papers. You can actually fold the cover completely over so it's not in the way.
GREAT ART MATERIALS!

I really enjoyed how easy it was to switch mixed media, and the paper didn't curl up a lot when it was wet.

I love the Canson XL watercolor pads. They really hold up to paint and water!!!Not the best quality paper, but good enough for so many uses. It is the perfect collage substrate and collage piece maker.
Good Deal for Student-Grade
from New Orleans
This level of quality is not high-high-artist standard, but it's definitely worth the price. I run through these XL-series watercolor pads by Canson at a very fast pace, covering sheet after sheet (both sides) and maximizing "brush mileage" to get a lot of practice in. I wouldn't try to scrub-out a mistake much, or to use this for final artworks much. It's perfect for practice and throw-away and at this price it's the best deal anywhere for square inches of watercolor paper that you can actually use per US dollar and penny.
