Known as the "Super Bar" for its strength, our heavy duty stretcher bar is made of kiln-dried, knot-free pine from Forestry Stewardship Council (FSC) certified suppliers. The bar has been finger spliced. Finger splicing is a method of bonding pieces of lumber together to form a very long, straight bar, that actually makes it a stronger setting for your canvas.

Each bar's profile has a ½" rise to prevent sagging, and each bar is slightly rounded at the top edge, which is ideal for accommodating various canvas weights.

Blick heavy duty stretcher bars are only for use with Blick heavy duty cross-braces.

Bought 8" heavy duty bars and found significant inconsistency in the tongue thickness. Very difficult to fit together and the sections do not match at the front canvas surface. Every corner required sanding or the canvas would reveal the mismatch. The bars are constructed from finger joined sections also - there are other brands that use only solid pieces. Will never buy these again.

Bottom Line No, I would not recommend this to a friend

I've used these heavy duty stretcher bars for large canvases for a little over two years now, and they are really great structural supports for paintings. I've worried about stretcher bars warping from the tension of the stretched canvas in the past, but you don't have to worry about that with these bars. These stretcher bars will last for a long, long time. If I have ever received damaged or warped stretcher bars, which happens from time to time, I have never had any problem at all getting an exchange for new bars.

obviously I stretch canvas on them. they are straight, the corners fit well and they don't rack. I use them up to 44" without cross bracing with unprimed cotton. I think the finger joint material is less likely to warp and probably makes them cost less.

These bars are precise and sturdy.They are made of such quality wood that I actually use them as an exposed frame for my paintings. They work great as an alternative to traditional wood panel frames. I am very pleased with the end result.

I am currently a non-degree graduate student streaching my own canvas, while working to support my studies. I will say at first that overall these Stretcher Bars are not cheap either in price OR IN QUALITY. Yet, I live in the real world and I don't always have time to devote a day or two to buying material and devoting to making my own bars. The price and the shipping is not expensive for a professional but for a student budget they are not 100% cheap either.

These bars won't warp unless you soak them in a bathtub for the next 3 weeks.

They are strong and can take a beating when you're stretching your canvas.

I am incredibly happy with the quality of the wood and how the Stretcher bars are constructed. I would buy these again and again.
