Support, display, and preserve your larger works of art with Utrecht Heavy-Duty Canvas Stretcher Bars.
Chosen by professional painters for their reliable quality and sure value, these extra-wide, extra-sturdy bars are made from globally sourced ponderosa pine and hem fir that is seasoned and kiln-dried to resist warping over time. The stretcher bars measure 2-1/4" wide and have a 1-1/4" profile.
Corners are slotted and double-mortised, ensuring that each frame you assemble has perfectly square corners that stay that way. The stretcher bars are beveled on one side to make mounting your canvas easier.
Price is per strip, not per pair. All sizes are interchangeable.

Heavy-Duty Cross Braces
Designed to work with Utrecht Heavy-Duty Stretcher Bars, these pine cross braces give your frame extra stability. They measure 1-3/4" wide, have a 3/4" profile, and are available in a variety of sizes. For the correct fit, order the cross brace in the same size as your stretcher bar. (The actual measurement of the cross brace will be shorter, but it will be sized to fit inside the assembled frame.) Center-notched cross braces are available. Cross brace brackets (sold separately) are needed to attach these cross braces to your canvas frame.

BEST STRETCHING SYSTEM FOR THE MONEY
By Michael Costantini
from Santa Rosa, CA
I have been a professional painter for 40 years. We recently had to re stretch a number of heavy oil impasto paintings which had been rolled and shipped; a very difficult process. The Utrecht Heavy Duty bars were notched perfectly, adjusted to true with ease, and all in all performed beautifully. They surpass other products costing more. The Blick costumer service system is faultless and a pleasure to work with. Very user friendly online ordering. I recommend to the professional and novice alike.

Both positives and negatives....
from Coarsegold, CA
Overall, I'd say this is a good product. On the positive side, the bars were totally straight - which I am a stickler about - and are very sturdy. On the negative side, just be aware that you'll need to sand the edges where the canvas will be bent over the bar, as these edges are very sharp, and could damage the canvas over time. But, that's very common, and almost to be expected. Also, the wood is quite dense, which I imagine helps keep the bars nice and straight, however, if you use a staple gun, as I do, to attach the canvas, many staples will go only part way in. You'll need a hammer to get them the rest of the way in.

Easy to put together and always consistent, solid quality. Wood is always nice and the corners fit snugly.

The pieces fit together without glue. Just use a square to get it straight. Carefully staple the canvas and you are done.

Beware cupped or warped heavy duty wooden stretcher bars
By no nickname--what a silly question.
from West Tisbury MA
I've been buying Utrecht products including heavy duty stretcher bars for over 40 years. I've learned to sight each bar when purchasing in store -- especially the longer lengths-- for warping and cupping. When ordering on line, however, this is not possible and I have often had to return individual bars with all the associated expense, frustration and delay.
Merchant response: Thank you for taking the time to share your comments with us. Please know that if you ever receive warped stretcher bars from us, we will make arrangements to replace them, and you will not be responsible for the return shipping. Just give us a call at 1-800-723-2787 for further assistance.
Large canvas stretching strips
from North Carolina
My canvas size, often 4-6ft. The strips fit tightly together without glue and once assembled hold their shape, I put wood glue at joints but not nessesary. The raised curved edges allow one to pull canvas taught. They are thick and have good weight which is essential for larger work. For smaller it gives a weight that holds well in humidity and the substantial profile adds a finished edge that does not require framing- even in gallery hangs.
