Comments about UArt Sanded Pastel Paper:

UArt is a nice paper with a nice feel. I have worked on the 400, 600, and 800 grades. However, I have had issues with the paper curling up on the edges, even when mounted. The curling isn't major, but it's enough to make it a bit difficult for me to work with. I also have run into trouble with inconsistencies of tooth from sheet to sheet, particularly in the 600 and 800 grades. If it weren't for these issues, I'd probably use UArt a lot more often. It is otherwise a good sheet. But for now I will concentrate on other brands.

No other pastel paper has stood up to this on. I use mostly use the 600 and 800 grade find that it will still hold many layers of even the softest pastel. It allows for much finer, detailed work than some of the coarser papers. It does not eat up pastels too quickly works beautifully with pastel pencils as well. The best thing about this paper is the ability to underpaint in any technique I have tried including oilpaint wash, watercolour, pastel and alcohol or turps. Not even the slightest buckling. The papers only come in one shade but because you can underpaint you just tone each area to suit your needs. It has none of the inconsistencies of product or supply that Wallis does. The rolling of the Uart paper is a problem as it is cut from a roll to the size required and work needs to be mounted to board or taped down to work on.

This paper is great in holding many different layers of pastels and also trying under painting techniques. I always heard about how great sanded papers are for pastels but had only used the Canson MT paper, which is great but doesn't take many layers. I tried the 400 series paper and it's toothy and keeps taking many different layers with no issues. I used watercolors for under painting and the paper didn't buckle at all.

I've been looking for a large sheet of pastel paper for awhile now and I finally settled on this one. I purchased a 600 and an 800 and they are wonderful! I was a bit wary of them at first because I'm used to working on charcoal paper and various pastel paper textures but I had never used one like this. It feels a lot like fine sandpaper which threw me for a loop but it's so fine that it almost feels like painting on it. I have issues with heavily textured paper as I have never liked it but the texture on this paper actually allows for a much smoother result while working. It's also thick and heavy so I can easily mix my watercolor with the pastel pencils. I really enjoy having this to work on!

I use the paper for Colored Pencil and water-soluble Colored Pencil Crayons. It is wonderful for both purposes and will not buckle when wet. I cannot say enough good about this surface and how well it works with this medium. The only thing limiting it is the one color it comes in. So far this has not presented a problem, as the base color is quite neutral.

I work in Oil Pastel and so far this is the best surface I have found. It has great texture to it for OP and it holds many layers. The only thing that I don't like about it is when you want to cut a large sheet down to size it tends to warp and want to roll up. Even a finished painting will want to do this. This is no problem though when you frame it.
