Welcome to dickblick
Compact and sturdy, this pen-style compass features an equal-spread mechanism for accurate settings, a metal barrel, and a soft rubberized grip and handle that offer a firm hold.
The clip attaches to pockets, pouches or backpacks, and the safety cap protects the lead point and needle. A storage compartment in the barrel holds 3 extra pieces of 2 mm HB lead. The compass measures 6¼" (16 cm) long and draws circles up to 12" (30 cm) in diameter.

Nice idea, not quite so nice execution

I'm not usually one to write negative reviews, however I feel as if this product does not perform the function that is advertised. How I use the product:I am studying sacred geometry, namely the seed of life, flower of life, and fruit of life. For those that don't know, the fruit of life is where all of the platonic solids (shapes that, when drawn inside of a circle, all points of the shape will touch the edge of the circle perfectly) come from. This means I'm literally drawing circle after circle after circle, so I decided to get two of these compasses, just in case I misplaced one!The trouble is, I'm now somewhere around 30-50 circles deep into this, and the locking mechanism for the lead(it's a spinning wheel thing that tightens/loosens and holds/releases the lead) doesn't actually seem to lock. I spin it as tight as I possibly can, start drawing circles, and 2-3 circles later I watch in horror as the lead slides deeper into the slot. This effectively changes my 1inch radius to about .9 inches of radius. A couple circles later I'm closer to .7, then a couple circles later I have to stop, adjust the lead(which means I have to resize the radius completely) and that all of the circles drawn before readjusting the lead are not the proper diameter. Anyone that's worked with circles much can say that when you need them all to be the same size, and they aren't, nothing lines up properly. I love the pen-clip style of this compass, it fits neatly into my pocket(clipped, of course) and the cap is very nicely designed. I have no issues with the cap coming off, or anything like that. Everything as far as mobility and everything else (other than the lead slipping...) seems to be great. Unfortunately that one downfall means that I can't use it as I need to use it. Be wary! Also, if you plan to draw many circles, you may want to consider a compass that locks into place at the pivot joint.Namaste.

It was great at first but after the lead got shorter it was impossible to get the lead out. I had to use some sharp things to fish it out the holder. If you are using it few times it's ok but for a class of kids to use it over and over for get it.
