I ordered this sketchbook with the assumption that it was, in fact, hardcover. The pages are very nice and it seems to be fairly sturdy despite the fact the cover feels similar to a semi-glossy cardstock. So I'm not necessarily disappointed. I just think that it should not be sorted under "hardbound" sketchbooks.

The paper in this sketchbook is absolutely perfect. It isn't strangely soft like some sketchbooks, it takes pencil and dry media perfectly. I was surprised to find how well this book takes watercolor, seeing as it has 150 sheets. The only problem with this book is the binding comes off midway through a sketchbook without fail. I am on my third and know others who use them and this always happens. This makes them feel impermanent and the sketchbooks tend to become practice sketchbooks rather than something more special. If global art made a hardbound sketchbook with this paper it would be the perfect sketchbook. (The paper is more natural than the hand book journals and I much prefer the square edges over the rounded edge)

I carry around a Moleskine sketchbook, which is fine for pen drawing, but the paper has no tooth, and is a rather yellow ivory color, so I have been looking for something different to use with other mediums. These Flexi-Sketch books are wonderful, especially for the price.

The paper is heavy, not as heavy as the Moleskine paper, but as heavy as or heavier than the average sketchbook paper. It is also a nice, bright white and it has a nice medium toothed surface. It feels nice under your fingers, but holds colored pencil very well. It also stands up well to alcohol based markers, but will bleed a little, so it's best to have a sacrificial sheet of paper between the current sheet and the next.

These are also half as much, or less, compared to comparably sized offerings from Moleskine, and have more pages.

There are a few small downsides compared to Moleskine's offerings: The cover is not nearly as rugged, being thick coated paper (very thick, but still paper), as opposed to Moleskine's oil cloth and rigid cardboard covers. The Moleskine also has an elastic enclosure, built-in bookmark, and an expandable back cover pocket.

To sum up, I'll still carry a Moleskine on a daily basis for quick observations and notes, and to take into any situation that might be rough on a less rugged book. I'll keep a few Flexi-sketch books in different sizes around to accomodate different mediums and sizes, and for the more finished look its superior paper provides.

All in all, a fantastic value for the money and highly recommended.

It's a nice heavy-weight, smooth, gridded paper that's a pleasure to use . . . until you go to tear off a sheet. The perforation is inadequate to tear off a sheet cleanly.

I bought these sketchbooks for my summer workshop students. It's a good size for class notes and drawings, and the flexible cover makes it very portable. Paper has a substantial weight and good writing finish.

This sketchbook does have heavy interior pages, but it should never be listed as a hardcover sketchbook because it is not. The cover is basically a little heavier than your standard dust cover. If you are particularly hard on your sketchbooks (as I am), this is not the right sketchbook for you.
