I have used these sketch books off and on for years. I love the durability, the heavy, tough paper stock and the burly cardstock cover. Oh, and the ring binding is decent as well. I draw on both sides of every page and use nearly every medium (though pen and ink, brush pen, and watercolors dominate) including dip pens, and these books last. Best of all, there's no bleed through, unless you're using alcohol markers or other industrial materials.

I discovered this sketchbook after years of exploring many different types of brands claiming to offer versatility, durability and texture; once i found this one I never went back. The 11 X 14 format is my favorite, and I've gone through about 8 over the last several years, tinting every page with ink wash that has held up fine. Unlike many other sketchbooks, this one has proved time and again to provide the necessary support for most mediums wet and dry, keeping in mind that the artists understands the limits of paper's ability to retain water (which is why anne-marie of chicago probably is not very experienced). I recommend this notebook to anyone and everyone. It also has the best tooth of any sketchbook for those seeking an old-master look, especially when coupled with Cretacolor Nero 4 pencils...austrian graphite is the closest thing to old black chalk there is

I relentlessly tormented this sketchbook! It goes with me everywhere and has held up extremely well. I have used almost every medium imaginable. There are whole pages of acrylic paint, watercolors, ink, pencil, pen, colored pencil and heavy mixed media. And one sketchbook later, all of the pages still lie completely flat! I LOVE this sketchbook!

this book is very convenient to take with you for sketching out and about or for traveling purposes. I use mine for watercolors and it works so efficiently. Keep in mind that it is not as thick as regular 140lb watercolor paper because it is not watercolor paper. It just works well with watercolors. The pages do not buckle but sometimes bands of rolled up paper can form if you heap on too much water and paint. Overall, I think it is the best in it's category not just for the price, but for the number of pages it has and the paper texture itself. The pages are not translucent, are not perforated, and the cover is not necessarily hardback, but it is not thin paper either. I found out about it from another traveling sketcher whose work I admire. Definitely recommended.

I've been trying out various brands of small-format sketchbooks to use for mixed media drawing. I got this in a small size, and it works really well for the following: ink drawing with brush pen, water soluble crayons, light wash with water pen and pan watercolor, charcoal, oil pastel. Well you get the idea - anything that isn't too wet:). My requirements were a small book that can be carried anywhere, has a strong enough cover to not be easily damaged in normal use, and with a wire binding that lets pages turn easily. This meets my needs for all of the above. I use both sides of the paper, so that's a lot of drawings!

The Super Deluxe sketchbook is everything I need in a sketchbook and more. It's super versatile, sturdy, and good looking too! The quality of the paper is outstanding for all the media I like to sketch with: pencil, colored pencil, ink, and watercolor. It may be a little pricey compared to some other options but believe me, you get what you pay for. I cannot recommend it more highly!

I have happily been using the Canson Montval notebook (it is my "most frequent buy" by far on dickblick.com) but sometimes I like to mix things up. I was attracted to this book because it offers 10 more pages than the Canson, and it is advertised as having 93-pound paper opposed to Canson's 90-pound paper. I was also influenced by all the glowing reviews.

The moment I unpacked it, the cover gave me pause: it's fake leatherette has a very cheap/cheesy look that is more akin to highschool notebooks than art sketchbooks. It actually bothered me so much that I gessoed over it and painted it with acrylics, a process that the cover accepted very well. Still, I'm not one to judge a sketchbook by its cover, but by its pages. I don't know how it is 93 pounds, when it seems at least 1/3 lighter weight than the Canson's 90 pounds. It did actually accept fluid acrylics fairly well--I would say perhaps even better than Canson. I really soaked the page and it ended up drying flat, which delighted and surprised me. Unfortunately, it didn't work as well with other wet media, for whatever reason. I tried weatercolors, watercolor pencil with a very light wash, and ink with a light wash, and they all buckled really bad. Maybe I needed to soak the paper and let it dry, but that isn't how I usually use pages in a notebook. So this was a bust for me. Still, I'm glad I tried it, because it's given me a new-found appreciation for the Canson. For people who do dry media or fluid acrylics in their notebook, it could be a good fit.

I use this journal for travel drawings also. I like the texture of the paper as I use ink for my drawings and like to add a little watercolor wash and this book and paper can take it. The cover is sturdy and the spiral binding stays intact.

I've been using these Aquabee sketchbooks for years - they are the best. They work with pencil, ink and watercolor, especially when I travel I always take one with me.
