I'm new to ATCs, and decided to buy a variety of different pre-made ATC cards here at dickblick. I bought one of each of these spiral pads.

The Recycled Sketchpad and the Erasable Sketchpad are both, I believe, too thin to really be used for a good ATC. Erasable is slightly thicker than Recycled, and a very yellowy tone. They don't feel like they'll last long, and if you write on one side (like your name and such) in ink, it can show faintly through the other side. I use these to practice, and to see how things fit on the card size. But I wouldn't recommend them.

The other two are better. The Drawing Sketch is definitely thicker, and I don't mind making nicer art on these. I can write on the back without it making 'ghost marks' through to the art (unless I hold the pen still on the paper) . I plan to use these until I've gotten used to making ATCs, and it's nice because the pad comes with a lot of card pages. Marker and nib pens can get bleedy, color pencils work nicely.

I think the nicest pad is the Bleedproof pad. It's about as thick as the Drawing cards and white-white. EXTREMELY smooth. It's perfect for ink; I've tried liner pens (0.03mm, felt-brush pen 0.1mm), brush and ink, nib pens, they've all worked great on this paper with no feather or bleeding. Crisp sharp lines. MARKERS work well on this; I only did a light test, but it didn't bleed to the sides at all, managing to keep in the lines of even the 0.03mm pen. Marker WILL bleed to the back, but I've yet to find a paper where it doesn't.

When tearing from the perforation, be careful. If you're hasty, you'll tear or bend your card while removing them from the pad. There is a slight 'rougher' edge on the perforated side, but nothing noticeable, and you can cut it smooth if it really bugs you.

In the future, I may keep getting the Bleedproof pads, but after I use the cards in my Drawing Pad, I don't think I'll get any more of those. They're passable, but I think still too thin for me. The Crescent Drawing cards, and all of Strathmore's ATC card varieties, are thicker, and feel quite nice. The Crescents come 20 in a pack, and are a bit more expensive, but you get what you pay for? Both brands/products are available at dickblick, and you should check them out; you get less cards, but they're (I feel) higher-quality and sturdier.

I would recommend trying the Drawing and Bleedproof Pads, but don't bother with Recycled or Eraseable. See if you like, and if you don't, it's only a couple bucks.
