Strathmore's 500 Series Charcoal Paper is a 100% cotton fiber, acid-free paper that has a traditional laid pattern for precise shading with charcoal and pastels. Its raised texture is also suitable for pen, pencil, or art crayon. 64 lb (95 gsm) weight.
New micro-perforated sheets tear cleanly out of pad. Pads feature actual size sheets when paper is removed at the micro-perforation.

I use is to make charcoal drawings. If you erase a lot, the paper will be intact, it won't break. For me is perfect, great quality!

ONLY place to get S500 Series Charc Pads
By Tracy the Entura Artist
from Charlotte area, NC
I use the product for Entura Art (intuitive art with chalk pastels) and Dic Blick is the ONLY place that keeps the size I want/need in stock. I have tried getting it from other vendors who claim they have it; but then they tell me AFTER I order that it is actually not in stock and on backorder and they try to switch me to a size that is twice as big and I have to cut it in half with a razor and it is impossible to transport such a pad.I LOVE Dick Blick!!! Thanks! Thanks! Thanks!

Purple Blotches !
from San Diego, Ca
Please note that this is NOT a reflection on Blick's. I bought a pad of Strathmore's Charcoal 500 series paper to try for the first time. I usually use the 300 series and have not had any problems with it so far. However, this new sealed pack of 500 premium paper (12 x 18), had three pages marked with purple blotches that appear to be finger prints on the back side of these pages. If this is quality control at Strathmore, on what is marketed as premium paper, you have lost further sales from me concerning this product !!
Bottom Line No, I would not recommend this to a friend

The Best Pastel Paper there is.
By A loyal Pasteler from St Louis MO
from St Louis MO
This paper works well with Unison Pastels, Diane Townsend Pastels, Rembrandt Pastels, Prismacolor NuPastels, Conte Crayons, and Oil Pastels. Very Awesome Stuff. You can add a layer of workable fixative to a painting made with soft pastels, and when the workable fixative drys tighten the painting up with harder pastels. Those softer pastels are better for covering the turf on the paper and laying the foundation. The workable fixative works to allow good detail over soft pastels by painting the detail with Rembrandt or Prismacolor Nupastels on this paper. This paper is amazing. I have two black pads of this, but I think they only sell the black color in individual sheets. Any color is good to work with. I don't know of too many Pastel Papers that you can start with soft pastels, add some workable fixative, then go back with harder pastels for more detail. Totally awesome.
Selecting a paper is one of the most important decisions an artist will make that will influence the outcome of their work. Strathmore Artist Papers are known for their quality, consistency and performance and come in a vast array of styles in a range of good, better, best, and premium quality. There is a paper for every level of artist and for every artist's needs.
