Welcome to dickblick
Made with Ampersand's own True Artist Hardbord substrate, Gessobord is perfect for all studio and plein air painting applications. Its fine tooth finish is delicate enough for glazing, fluid brush strokes, and tight detail, yet tough enough to hold up to the most rigorous palette knife painting, collage, and masking techniques.
This premium archival surface is ready to use — no priming or prepping is required! Pre-primed with a professional-quality, acid-free Titanium White acrylic gesso ground for enhanced clarity of color, Gessobord is an ideal surface for traditional and water-based oils, alkyds, acrylics, collage, and mixed media.
Flat panels can be framed or mounted. Cradled panels can be hung on a wall with no additional framing. The edges are sanded, so you can apply your favorite ground to create an extra dimensional painting.
Made from sustainable forest products that ensure the protection of wildlife, plants, soil and water, Gessobord is formaldehyde-free and contains no harmful volatile organic compounds.
Gessobord is made in the USA.

Hello Gessobord -- Goodbye Canvas
Comments about Ampersand Gessobords:
I don't know what I am going to do with all my canvases. I am hooked on Ampersand Gessobord for my oil paintings. It takes a lot less paint to paint on gessobord. The paint glides on so smoothly and just glows. I love the look and the feel of my paintbrush gliding across the board. I tried painting on a canvas board that I had had for quite some time. There is no comparison to the look of oil paint on Ampersand Gessobord.
Bottom Line Yes, I would recommend this to a friend

Reliable painting surface

I've been making oil paintings on these for 5 years, they are the best ready to paint panels on the market. The sizes are more varied than they used to be, They can get pricey but are worth it. Highly recommended.
Already on second order of this product
Introduced to this product in e-course and love the varied use.

Surface is smooth and durable, hold up to painting and printing. Excellent for layering and responsive to graphite and colored pencils, seems to like any medium. Gesso holds up to abuse. No complaints except for the price.
Love the gessobord

My favorite painting surface

I've tryed other pre-gessoed boards and the paint just slid around and it was frustrating. These boards are nice, hold the paint so I feel like I'm getting some where.

I love these Ampersand gesso panels.

I was introduced to Ampersand gesso panels by an artist friend. I love the panels. I only purchase the 1/8" depth. Before learning of them I oil painted on store bought cotton canvas, but no more. One thing that I learned is that when I painted on canvas, I could hold my brushes perpendicular to the canvas. If that is done with Ampersand gesso board one tends to scrape off the paint. So now I hold my bushes more parallel to the panel and it work much better. I can, and do , use some bristle brushes, but I much prefer Mongoose sables. And fincally, Yes, I would recommend Ampersand gesso board to my other artist friends.

I use this for both acrylic and oil paintings. It's smooth surface makes fine details so much easier! The thin profile makes framing a cinch.

These boards are great to work on in oils. They are sturdy and paint glides on.
Gessobord is Ampersand's surface for oil and acrylic painting. These premium painting surfaces are made with a unique archival seal technology that provides a barrier between the wood substrate and the painting surface. A professional artist grade of acrylic gesso is then applied so the boards are ready to use -- no preparation is necessary.
Ampersand manufactures a wide variety of archival artist panels. There is a surface for every artist, every medium and every technique. Watch this video to learn which of these boards is right for you!
