Show off your colors like never before! An archival, acid-free textured clay surface that absorbs watercolors like a fine paper, Aquabord allows colors to retain their purity and vibrancy in a way that even the finest watercolor papers can't match.
Its unique surface is perfect for watercolors and gouache, needs no stretching, and will not tear, shrink, or buckle.
Endlessly glaze and lift to underlying layers of color — or completely lift back to white without damaging the surface!
Aquabord is also ideal for casein, acrylics, and more. Unlike paper, Aquabord can be sealed and displayed glass-free, keeping colors and textures true to life.
Aquabord is made in the USA.

Comments about Ampersand Aquabords:
I am loving this surface for watercolors. It's a great texture and I am able to achieve the watercolor affect the way I expect to. I also love how it doesn't warp like watercolor paper tends to do.
Bottom Line Yes, I would recommend this to a friend

Not the best for Watercolor
from Fort Mohave, AZ
I have used for watercolor only. The good thing about aquabord is the ability to erase or scrub back to near original white. The bad thing about aquabord is the ability to erase or scrub back to near original white. This does not make it good for layering watercolors. The original color gets reconstituted and mixes with the new color and creates mud. I think this product would be better suited for oils or acrylics but I haven't tried them.
Bottom Line No, I would not recommend this to a friend
Super smooth surface

I have only played around with these aquabords. But now that I see how they work, I'll be using them a lot more for my illustrations.
New Favorite Surface
from Waverly, GA
Wanted to give this 5 stars but the corners were a little mushed upon unpacking (though it seemed well padded) and subsequently the dents lost a little clay coating after being worked on. I love how workable this surface is and how so many different mediums can be used. I'm using Neocolor II on the one I'm currently working on and love the combination! No Glass = Fantastic! Ordering more.

Perfection at a great price
Ampersand Aquaboard is a perfect choice for a large multiple images Church Iconography Painting Commission with egg tempera and gold leaf. Traditional gessoed popular boards would cost a fortune and weigh a ton at such a large format. The board holds rich saturated color, as well as very wet floats, REALLY well!
A Long-time Favorite of Commercial Artists

Aquabord seems to be enjoying a revival of popularity, especially with the new generation, but I have used it for years. After living in Japan for several years my fine art shows influences of their flat "no shadows, no perspective" style, and this board is perfect for achieving that look in acrylics. I think it is the absorbent clay surface, reminiscent of Japanese porcelain, that appeals to me. Too, as a former graphic designer, I chose Aquabords for the crisp masses and linear effects I was able to create in my design work. Quality craftsmanship is in this product.
Love this product!

I used this in a watercolor workshop and everyone enjoyed painting on these. No need for framing, just display on a stand! Mardi Gras Crabs!

This product works well and I would continue to purchase it.
from Chapel Hill, TN
It might take a little getting used to this board. Especially if you are used to watercolor on paper; but it's one of those products that you either love and use or choose to go back to paper. I think it is the medium of watercolor on a board for people used to oils on canvas.

First time user...very nice

I'm a watercolor artist and I decided to try Aquabord for a number of reasons: I was excited about the possibility of not having to frame a piece if I didn't have to, but still be able to display it nicely, being able to buy pre-designed sizes, and the fact that I'd read reviews that suggest I didn't have to be super careful with this stuff. Maybe I'm weird, but whenever I try a new brand of watercolor paper, I have to learn how to use it to get the results I want ... just little technical changes. Aquabord is the same way - there's a bit of a learning curve with it, but I'm happy with how my paintings are turning out, and am very glad I tried it!I ordered a cradled panel and it arrived on my doorstep in very good shape. Excellent product!
Aquabord is an amazing acid-free surface for water media that won't warp, buckle or tear. This surface works similarly to a cold-press watercolor paper with several benefits: colors remain true and vibrant since the paint sits on top of the surface rather than absorbing into it. Multiple layers of clean color can be stacked one on top of the other, and lifting back to white is incredibly easy. You can scrub the surface without any damage — and once your painting is complete, you can frame without glass or backing!
Ampersand manufactures a wide variety of archival artist panels. There is a surface for every artist, every medium and every technique. Watch this video to learn which of these boards is right for you!
