Show off your colors like never before! An archival, acid-free textured clay surface that absorbs watercolors like a fine paper, Aquabord allows colors to retain their purity and vibrancy in a way that even the finest watercolor papers can't match.
Its unique surface is perfect for watercolors and gouache, needs no stretching, and will not tear, shrink, or buckle.
Endlessly glaze and lift to underlying layers of color — or completely lift back to white without damaging the surface!
Aquabord is also ideal for casein, acrylics, and more. Unlike paper, Aquabord can be sealed and displayed glass-free, keeping colors and textures true to life.
Aquabord is made in the USA.

Comments about Ampersand Aquabords:
Love that I don't have to frame with glass. Also, it's so easy to clean up edges when you make a mistake.

I started using aquanoard for most of my paintings several years ago. As a plein air painter it is easy to take on location to paint with gouache water colors. With a gloss fixative I can frame without glass.
from the Berkshires, MA
I love Aquabord - it is like painting on beautiful watercolor paper without the wrinkling. It seems to take everything I put on it with such an ease and flow. Inks, acrylics, paint pen, spray paint. I can not recommend this product enough! < 3

You don't know what you are missing
from Mount Dora, FL
Watercolor artists. If you haven't tried aquabord you don't know what you are missing. It takes paint like cold press paper but lifts like hot press. It can be wiped clean if that should ever be necessary. It is easy to make corrections. Another plus...it does not have to be framed under glass. You can apply a spray coating which protects your painting, adds UV protection, creates a moisture barrier, and is acid free and archival safe. It comes in many different sizes . You can frame your work without a mat and glass so it is more economical than traditional watercolor framing. Try it....you will like it!

Using for quick small paintings. Take longer to dry so adjust washes. Also takes longer to dry if you like glazing your layers of paint.
First time user and very pleased
from Marion, IN
Easy to work with, good for detail work, but not quite as good as a quality hot press paper. However, as a watercolor artist, being able to hold and manipulate a hard backed working surface is an amazing experience.
Better Than Water Color Paper

Just like water color paper but a harder surface and takes paint perfectly.

Enjoy the Versatility of Ampersand Aquabord!
from Stuart, Florida
I switched to Aquabord for most of my watercolors a few years back while living in New Mexico. The quality of light there is such that collectors did not want anything glazed hanging on their walls. All they could see was reflection. Aquabord presents some adjustments in how you apply watercolor, but once you're there, you finish your painting with a spray sealant and frame with no mats and no glass! Saves tons on framing costs and your painting is not obscured by reflective coverings. I love Aquabord and highly recommend trying it!

Fun Experimenting with Textures
By Head in the Stars
I work with texture in my art and was very pleased at the variety of textures I was able to achieve with Aquabord. Just getting starting experimenting with it, but so far I love it. I also really enjoy the way the thicker boards make a watercolor piece look finished without framing.
Aquabord is an amazing acid-free surface for water media that won't warp, buckle or tear. This surface works similarly to a cold-press watercolor paper with several benefits: colors remain true and vibrant since the paint sits on top of the surface rather than absorbing into it. Multiple layers of clean color can be stacked one on top of the other, and lifting back to white is incredibly easy. You can scrub the surface without any damage — and once your painting is complete, you can frame without glass or backing!
Ampersand manufactures a wide variety of archival artist panels. There is a surface for every artist, every medium and every technique. Watch this video to learn which of these boards is right for you!
