These semi-translucent, lead-free underglazes have the same distinction as the original Velvet line with the addition of small specks.

When left unglazed, they assume the appearance of velvet or velour, with a soft speckle effect. When glazed with Amaco Transparent Matte or Clear glazes, they intensify in color.

Use these underglazes on greenware or bisque. The recommended firing temperature is Cone 04 (1971°F, 1077°C), but Designer Velvets tolerate a wide firing range. The recommended firing temperature is the same as that of the clay used.

Set of 12 — Contains 12 colors in 2 oz (59 ml), including one each of Sand Dune, Cactus Green, Sandstorm, Feather White, Tumbleweed, Desert Sky, Canyon Beige, Desert Verbena, Speckled Pink, Fossil Gray, Desert Sun, and Rosy Mauve.

Note — Use this color chart as an approximation of the real color. If exact color matching is necessary, use actual samples of the materials.

I have a watercolor back gound so getting into ceramics I want to paint with detail. Velvets give you the ability to do that on fired clay. Will let you know how they did on porcellin, I'm working on a cup now.

These underglazes are simply gorgeous. For me the colors came out a little darker than shown (though my monitor might be off), but they're still quite close to the catalog representation. And the colors are beautiful so I'm not complaining! Without a clear overglaze these underglazes result in a lovely matte finish. The speckle effect is pleasing, not overwhelming. If you like muted, matte colors on your pots then this is the underglaze for you.
