Dick Blick offers more than 50 different varnishes for oil, acrylic, casein, and tempera painting. They include some of the most specialized varnishes in the world, used for conservation, restoration, antiquing, and retouching, as well as several hard-to-find traditional varnishes. See Multi-Purpose and Utility Brushes and Varnish and Gesso Brushes for a selection of brushes that are appropriate for varnishes, glazes, pastes, coatings, and so forth. |
A retouching varnish can be used to protect a painting that has dried to the touch, when it is still too early to apply a permanent varnish. Use a retouching varnish to allow for exhibition of a newly completed painting that is not ready for final varnish. |
