Great design. Perfect fit for a pocket.

Comments about X-Acto Retract-A-Blade #1 Knife:
As an artist and a student I tend to keep my X-acto knife in my pocket most of the time for convenience instead of having to dig through one of my bags to find it. The retractable blade on this X-acto is great since I don't have to worry about accidentally stabbing myself when ever I reach into my pocket or bag to get it. Compared to the old x-acto with the plastic 'safety' cap, I've stabbed myself less accidentally since i don't have to worry about the 'safety' cap popping off in transport without my knowledge when ever I rummage around in my pocket or bags. My old x-acto knife stays at home now.

Great as a sharpener and cutting tool
I'm using the knife to sharpen my colored pencils. The retractable blade keeps it safe in my leather pencil holder. I also tuck the packet of extra blades in one of the pencil holder elastic sections. They fit perfectly.
Excellent X-Acto update

The feature that allows you to retract the blade when it's not in use is an excellent update from a safety point of view. I'm very pleased because I sharpen my drawing pencils with it so carry it around--except in airplanes--whenever I am sketching.

This retractable knife gives you the best of two worlds. It gives you the safety of retractable snap knives with the excellent quality of an X-Acto Blade. The slide bar is easy to use and when the blade is snapped into place it remains solid. The blade retracts easily and does not accidentally slide back out. It can safely be carried in a pocket or art kit, ready to be used and then tucked away. Replacing the blade is virtually the same as replacing any other X-acto knife. The grip is a giving rubber like substance that allows for a firm grip without causing finger strain or abrasion even during extended use. We use it for opening boxes, cutting stencils, resizing paper. The hollow plastic outer shell is light without being flimsy or delicate.
A good option

This knife definitely beats having an unsheathed x-acto floating around in your toolbox. This knife performs well for its intended uses. Although, it feels a bit flimsy, I have never had any problems with its reliability, and it has not broken under very heavy usage. The only problem I have found is that when changing changing the blade, it sometimes takes a few tries before you can place the retraction lever where your hand doesn't grip. If you put the retraction lever where your hand grips, you will definitely retract the blade while you work.
