Comments about Wood Blocks:
In years past we bought actual woodcut blocks from a printmaking supply retailer, then this year were happy to see Dick Blick has woodcut blocks. But these are not woodcut blocks. This is plain old hardware store plywood. It even has tear-out on both sides on the cut edges. So not even cut well. It is hard to cut, as the top veneer is paper thin, so you are cutting into glue. The veneers are crummbly and splintery. The kids struggled and the resulting prints were rough. And, kids cut themselves - I had five kids get cut, and other years I have had one or none. This is a bad bad product, not as advertised, and a real bummer as woodcut is at the center of the class I teach.
Bottom Line No, I would not recommend this to a friend

Moldy and Warped
Out of 12 blocks of wood only 2 were suitable for printing with. Seven were so warped that if you ran them through a western style printing press they would break and the other three actually were moldy!! I'm disgusted.

Nightmare to work with
from Baltimore, MD
Bought as supports for relief printing class. Nightmare to work with. Wood is too soft and the grain very inconsistent. Even when you score lines deeply with fine razor or dremel, you get a lot of unanticipated lifting and pulpy edges. Plus texturing effects get get flattened away in one run through a press.

Garbage for sale!!!!!
from Tucson, AZ
Purchased for Pryograpic work but there are so many knotts and blemishes that finding room even for a small project is impossible. I should have read the other review before I placed the order. This is absolute junk and the very first time I have been dissapointed with a Blick order. They would be wise to offer nothing then these. I can't even find a use for them to make small boxes with. Buyer be ware

12 mahogany "blocks" arrived for me today in the mail. I was disappointed to find that they were merely scraps of weak plywood type wood full of a heavy grain. It is near impossible to even cut on them and they are falling apart at the seam between the thin top slice and the granulated middle area. Total junk and a complete ripoff, so long dick blick, your name is oddly fitting.
