Welcome to dickblick
These German-made pencils are world famous for their quality, lightfast pigments. Their opaque, water-soluble colors blend beautifully and erase easily. The large-diameter lead can make broad strokes or be sharpened to a fine point for details and lettering.
Draw with CarbOthello pencils as you would draw with a pastel stick. CarbOthello pencils can also be used like watercolor pencils — they respond instantly to a wet brush or pre-dampened paper. Pencils have semi-soft leads in a woodcased pencil form and are pre-sharpened.

Best all-around pastel pencil
from Southern California
Bill Creevy recommends these pencils for finishing touch fine line details and for the early stages of a piece where you don't want buildup. Better than average color assortment, particularly in the bigger sets. Stabilo makes a dedicated sharpener for these pencils which comes with the big set and is also available separately.

Smooth Pastel Pencils that are Pretty Solid
from Pemberton, NJ
A great price for Pastel Pencils. I love the variety of colors that Stabilo CarbOthello offers in its 60 count. I purchased the largest set available in order to supplement my Caran D'ache portrait pastel set. The CarbOthello pastel pencils don't have the nicest cradle insert to hold its pencils in place. I had to take care lifting the top tray out in order to get to the bottom tray of colors. But... OH, the cores are vibrant, thick, and they sharpen very nicely to a sharp point in the Dahle 155 Manual Pencil Sharpener. I used these these pastel pencils on Velour textured pastel paper and also on sanded pastel paper. They gently glided across both surfaces without any surprise hard spots in the core, or breakage if the tips, nor did I have any skipping across the paper. The CarbOthellos blend softly with a decent tortillion or stump. They play well with other pastel brands and are best used for fine details. I also liked using these pencils with white and black charcoal pencils.Overall, I really am satisfied with my purchase of these pencils. They were a good investment. Its just a shame that they are not available in open stock when I run out of a single color.

Good pastel pencils

I've been a colored pencil artist for while, producing a lots of commissioned portraits but desired to produce more dramatic contrasts in my work. I'd tried doing multimedia drawings with watercolor and colored pencil and it did move my work a little closer to what I desired but not exactly where I wanted t go, so I decided to try these. I couldn't be more happy with the results. The colors are brilliant. The blending possibilities are endless ... I've just placed an additional order of the colors that I use the most, 20 additional pencils!
from Youngstown, Ohio
I'm fairly new to pastels, but I find that they are so much nicer to use than colored pencils..much less labor intensive but with great coverage and blendability. .
