Conte pastel pencils don't fit
from Birmingham, Al
The opening is entirely to small for Conte pastel pencils. My quest for a pastel pencil sharpener continues. I'm bummed I wasted my money on this one. It may be a good sharpener, but it's useless for me.
Bottom Line No, I would not recommend this to a friend
My favorite sharpener
By Illustrator in Cali
from Hanford, CA
I bought several of these. I have used Prismacolor sharpeners and an electric sharpenerin the past. They eat up pencils and constantly break leads on my Prismacolor pencils. These little Stabilo sharpeners are the only ones that don't break up Prismacolor pencils. One trick: sharpen slow. You can turn the pencil or the sharpener, but you must sharpen at a slow to medium pace, if that makes sense. If you do it too quickly, you are likely to break leads of pencils, although that happens less often with the Stabilo.

Great for Pastel Pencils
from Southern California
I have tried so many sharpeners for my pastel pencils, electric, hand crank and hand held, and these hold up the best and at the best price.

perfect for colored pencils
By Carol in South Shore

I like a fast touch-up of my point, and a short cone. Just right for all my colored pencils, including pastel and watercolor pencils as well as wax based. Note: the fatter pencils, such as Polychromos, do not fit.
Great Little Sharpener
from Benbrook TX
A little pricier than I expected but it works so much better than other little hand-held sharpeners. So far, none of the "leads" have broken. I was even able to sharpen other pastel pencils that other sharpeners had shattered, so I highly recommend this little hand-held pencil sharpener.
Great Pencil Sharpener
This is a great pencil sharpener. It is hand held but gets a sharp point and you have lots of control. I've used it on all my graphite and colored pencils, even tried it on an eyebrow pencil. First and only time my brow pencils sharpened without breaking the point or leaving too much wood on the pencil.

This didn't fit many of my pencils. Just okay.

The proper way to sharpen pastel pencils.

I should have had one of these when I tried to sharpen a pastel pencil in a regular electric sharpener and had to replace it.
