If I could, I would marry this pen.

Comments about Pentel Pocket Brush Pen:
I am an artsy-fartsy comic artist/illustrator and I use this pen every day. I often use it in combination with watercolor. I can draw the lines and go over them minutes later with no bleed what-so-ever. I work on a small scale, so the size is perfect- I can make tiny, fine baby eyelashes or thick, rich curly hair- just fabulous!
It's a bit like riding a horse (or a bull or an ostrich) because it takes a good deal of rethinking how you work, and working together with a thing that seems to have a mind of its own. Once you figure out what's going on in its little pen brain you will be rewarded by spontaneous, beautiful, organic drawings.
I suppose the only downside would be that... uhm.... the ink refills are a little bit tricky to find.

Absolutely wonderful pen

Comments about Pentel Pocket Brush Pen:
Absolutely wonderful pen. I fell in love with it as soon as it hit paper. I used Pentel's other brush pens for a while, but they were water-soluble and didn't gel very well with what I wanted to do with them.
The only downside I can think of (and why it got 4 and not 5 stars) was that the product page lists them as having 2 refills, and while that is technically true because there are 2 cartridges, the pen itself does NOT come with a cartridge in it.

Amazing lines and ease of use
Pros
Cons
Best Uses
Comments about Pentel Pocket Brush Pen:
This pen has the amazing line-variety and flow of a high-quality brush, with all the benefits of cap-and-go felt-tips. Unlike other brush pens, this tip doesn't wear out. It has been flexible and resiliant far longer than any other pen I've ever used. That and the refillable build means it's a remarkable deal for the money. It doesn't leak, doesn't streak, doesn't run. Also, the ink sold here is waterproof, unlike most pens I've used. I can watercolor safely over my drawings. It even holds up to Prismacolor marker blending.
There is a longer drying time with this pen than with ... say india ink and a quill. This can also lead to eraser-smudges if you're impatient. It also has a learning curve if you're coming from felt-tips (more like a brush than a brush tip pen). Worth it though. Buy it and work with it a bit. You'll love it too.

THE BEST COMPANION FOR QUICK DRAW
Pros
Cons
Best Uses
Comments about Pentel Pocket Brush Pen:
THERE IS ONLY ONE LIMITATION, THE ONE RELATIVELY SMALL BRUSH SIZE. FORGET THAT.
THIS IS THE BEST BRUSH, MAKES LIMITLESS VARIETY OF MARKS, GOES WITH ME TO DRAW JUST ABOUT ANYWHERE, STAYS IN MY POCKET, SEVERAL OF THE PORTABLE BRUSH PENS DO THT, A EMPTY REFILL CARTRIDGE IS EASILY REFILLED, BUT IN THE STUDIO WITH WATERCOLOR OR THINNED SUMI INKS.
I USE A HYPODERMIC RIG LOADED WITH NON-HARDENING INK OR WATERCOLOR, USE THE NEEDLE TO REFILL TH CARTRIDGE USING THE HOLE MADE BY THR PEN IN TH END OF THE CARTRIDGE. THE PISTON BRUSH PENS ARE GREAT, BUT THE PORTABILITY OF THIS BRUSH PEN, AND EASE GIVEN BY SPARE REFILL CARTRIDGES MAKE THIS MY CHOICE FOR FIELD WORK, OR IMMEDIATE RESPONSE TO IDEAS, OR THE SERENDIPITY OF THE EVERYDAY ENCOUNTERS.

The BEST brush pen I have tried!

Comments about Pentel Pocket Brush Pen:
I have been using these pens for a number years and it has not been easy learning to use it properly. It takes serious practice and a very steady hand but that also comes with practice. If you are thinking of buying this pen, just do it, you wont be sorry if you stick with it. The line quality that one can get is just unsurpassable in my opinion. I have tried many, many brush pens, some much more expensive than this one and it blows them all away. I will always have a few of these in my kit with plenty of ink refill's!!!

Best Brush Pen For Comics and Cartooning
Pros
Cons
Best Uses
Comments about Pentel Pocket Brush Pen:
I fell in love with this pen right from the very start. It allows you to create a perfect hairline stroke, probably much finer than you could achieve with any Rapidograph or Micron technical pen. I bought a Strathmore Bristol Vellum 6x6 pad (20 sheets) and had such a creative rush after 2 or 3 drawings that I went through the whole pad in less than a week! This is worth the price especially for someone who works in comics or cartooning and get ideas on the go. And here was the best part for me fellow artisians...right near the very end when the cartridge is just about out of ink...the pen starts to produce a gray tone (like a halftone). In a "smudging" sort-of-way, this effect added a nice fine art quality to my final drawings in terms of achieving multiple values, not just the clean black and white graphic effect. In other words...the pen was good to the last drop!

Makes beautiful lines

Comments about Pentel Pocket Brush Pen:
This is a great pen. It's comfortable to hold, and the ink flows just right. The only drawback is that because it is so much fun to use, you will draw a lot and run out of ink...so be sure to buy more refills than you think you will need! I mainly use this with a small sketch book for drawing on the bus going to and from work. The marks are great on their own, or sometimes I will add watercolor or oil pastel when I get home. The only complaint is that the ink cartridge gets used up so fast. So, be warned that you will either need refills or an extra pen or two if you plan on drawing a lot while away from home.

Lovely brushpen w/ waterproof ink
By Igal Koshevoy
from Portland, Oregon
Pros

Comments about Pentel Pocket Brush Pen:
PROS:
* Ink is waterproof, perfect for watercolors on the go.
* Ink is dark, smooth and dries quickly.
* Sharp, responsive and durable tip produces beautiful results.
* Brush tip is like a top-quality #2 brush that comes to a perfect point.
CONS:
* No control over ink flow. The ink comes out at a steady rate, which is great for writing, but doesn't provide the control I sometimes want for drawing. I have to periodically dab the tip on a paper towel to dry it off for finer work.
You should also consider the Pentel Color Brush, an excellent brushpen that lets you control the flow of the ink by squeezing, but it's thicker and not waterproof. I use that brushpen a more because of its flow control.
