Wonderful for Sketching but Not Waterproof
By J. S. Rowe
from Upstate NY
Comments about Pentel Arts Stylo Sketch Pen:
In my illustration work I generally use waterproof pigment pens or India ink and nib pens, and then use transparent watercolour over them. When I purchased these pens it didn't occur to me to check if they were waterproof because I made an assumption that if it is called a "sketch" pen then it will be waterproof. My assumption was wrong. Not only did water media bleed the ink but I couldn't find a white-out paint that wouldn't just smear into grey. It's too bad because I love the flow and the variation of line I can get with these. I will keep using these pens as I love the way they work and feel, but the art will have to be scanned and then coloured digitally. The pens also work well if you colour first and then apply the ink linework.
Bottom Line Yes, I would recommend this to a friend

Stylo is incredibly versatile
from Poway CA
Passed my at-home lightfastness test with no color change after months in the window. Love the flexible nib. Love the ability to use a water brush to create a wash that dries permanently. I'm also impressed by how long the pen lasts; I usually by a new one because I lost one, not because it was used up.

Best Sketch Pens I have found!
By Freelance Art Department
I do a lot of sketching and have tried a lot of different sketch pens over the years. I've been using the Koh-I-Noor sketch pens for awhile now and have been satisfied, but when I tried this Pentel Sketch Pen it was leaps and bounds above them in quality. The only drawback is there is a tenancy for the ink to make some small 'splatters' if you make a sharp, fast angle with the pen (like drawing the letter "L" quickly can give you some minor splatter). It is no bother for me since I use them for roughs and layouts and not final art of any kind.
from remote northern california
good for smooth, gentle detailing and outlining [cartooning, illustration]. fast 'sketching' can result in pen tip being caught against paper/board, creating overspray [unsightly to me; may be desirable to some]. inkflow dependent on stroke speed and tip alignment [pen tip reinforced on two sides, open on two sides]. with careful use, a reasonable pen, but i wouldn't count on it for important work where strict cleanliness is required.
Bottom Line No, I would not recommend this to a friend
