Painters have always developed and adopted their own special strategies to create the ideal paint film. Michael Harding, in collaboration with writer and artist Pip Seymour, has created a range of oil mediums and varnishes that are specifically intended to work with Michael Harding Artists Oil Colors. In formulating these Mediums and Varnishes, Michael Harding and Pip Seymour had three goals — to use only the highest-grade natural materials in order to ensure excellent working properties, to guarantee compatibility with Michael Harding Artists Oil Colors, and to ensure long-term stability when added to the colors. The result is a range of varnishes and mediums that are an essential accompaniment to the painting experience and practice. Balsam Resin Glaze Medium — This is an historic glaze medium that is based on light-colored Canada balsam and fused with dammar resin and linseed stand oil. It provides increased gloss levels and imparts depth to paint films. Beeswax Paste — This is a paste with a high oil content that is created from linseed stand oil and bleached beeswax. It increases the body of oil colors, and creates a satin-matte finish. Beeswax Paste is especially useful with opaque colors. Dammar Glaze Medium — This is a traditional glaze medium that creates depth and gloss in transparent oil colors. It also speeds the drying process, making it ideal for use with slower-drying paints. Dammar Glaze Medium contains cobalt siccative. Dammar Varnish — This is a final picture varnish that creates a subtle gloss finish on oil paintings. Use it with opaque and semi-opaque colors. Matt Varnish — This is a final picture varnish that creates a permanent, matte, protective coating on oil paintings. Oil Paint Medium — This is a basic paint medium designed to ease flow, as well as to increase the gloss, transparency, depth, and beauty of oil colors. Oleo-Resin Medium — This is an historic paint medium, based on Austrian larch turpentine (Venice turpentine) and fused with dammar resin and linseed stand oil. Oleo-Resin Medium can be added to oil colors to enhance depth, gloss, and luster. Resin-Oil Wax Medium — This is a soft painting paste derived from bleached, pure beeswax and fused with dammar resin and linseed stand oil. It creates a satin sheen and allows for gentle impasto effects when painting in layers. When settling occurs, stand the jar in hot water and stir the medium until it dissolves. Caution — Follow safety instructions carefully. Not suitable for use by children. Shipping restrictions apply to hazardous materials. see also ... |
