The tremendous selection of watercolor brushes is great but it can also be overwhelming. I ended up ordering several brands in a variety of price ranges to compare. I am pleased that they are all great. The realization for me was that the more affordable price is an amazing product and I am very satisfied. (even with the Canadian exchange) I will know more when I see how long they last.
My Favorite WC Paper
I have tried other WC papers but the Fabriano papers are by far my favorite.

I use these to do a short study or sometimes, if there are not too many washes, a card. I love Fabriano because you can erase your pencil lines with ease, your watercolor is vibrant, and right now, as of this writing, quality is still good. I say that, because everything these days is about the bottom line and we artists suffer.

I love this watercolor paper. The color is very smart and it takes alot of washes without buckling. I have this in every size.
Fabriano 300# cold press

Several key things here: Reliable quality control from one batch to the next; Forgiving, in that it takes glaze after glaze until you get what you want; Rugged in that it will take lifting and scraping at a shameful level (No joke! I was trying to get the texture of lichen, finally had to attack the paper and scrape it with a box cutter-- the paper was resolute, and I got the exact effect I had hoped for); Glow!... any color that is glazed over will continue to have it's influence when you stand back. And price... Blick put it on sale (ten sheets) for less per sheet than I usually pay for 140 pound paper. At a recent workshop, we were asked to put up work to explain and take questions. A fellow student asked how I got my clear blue sky with no visible brush strokes. The answer just popped out: " I cheat. I use 300 pound Fabriano".
I absolutely love these paper blocks, they are just the right size for my plein air sketches/paintings and the paper holds up to pen, ink, and watercolor so very well.
paper block comes off cardboard backing
from SW Michigan
It's a large watercolor block that, unfortunately, came off of the cardboard backing. I could still use the top papers that were adhered together, but the lower papers will get rather spindly without being adhered to the cardboard backing. The wet paper will buckle when dried. Perhaps because it's a big block, but it should not do this.
Bottom Line No, I would not recommend this to a friend
