Comments about Derwent Coloursoft Pencils:
I love prismacolors but I am always wondering about the other possibilities so I decided to give these a try. These are nice pencils but they wouldn't be my first choice. But they are nice. I only purchased five colors to test out. I LOVE the Acid Yellow.... it goes down SO nicely and creamy and is a nice addition to my collection. I used it in one of my Posh coloring books and it is dreamy! So happy I picked up that color. I got the Sea Green and it is just as lovely however, it is really the same as the Prisma's Aquamarine. Bought the Ochre and Loganberry and Grey Green. Used them all on that page and I have to say, I am quite happy with these pencils -- the picture turned out great. They dust up a bit... not horribly so but they do; be prepared for that. It is a bigger barrel but not uncomfortable -- and mixed in the cup with my prisma's, it isn't trying to draw all the attention (a pun-?).One side of the prisma's sharpener does work for this pencil and gives it a great point. They go down very close to the same as the prisma in my opinion, aside from the dusting which prisma can do sometimes too, but not as much. The Sea Green and the Prisma Aquamarine feel the same going down. The Sea Green dusted; the prisma didn't. The Derwent may be holding the point a little longer, but not by much. The Prisma might be just a little creamier but not by much (and not at all by much with that Acid Yellow). The pencils are comparable for creaminess.I am deducting one point because of the flecking that is occurring although, it really seems to be happening mostly on the Loganberry. The Acid Yellow doesn't fleck at all but all of the other four colors do -- Loganberry does the most, every time and a lot. I was able to layer all of the colors on top of each other with no problem.I would be very willing to try more colors from this line in hopes of trying to find something different. Overall, I think it is a very nice pencil.
Bottom Line Yes, I would recommend this to a friend

Coloring is easy with these soft pencils.

I have used these pencils for years and there creamy softness makes it easy to obtain the depth of color you want. I love the large diameter of the core. You do have to sharpen them frequently because they are so soft. The price for these pencils is quite reasonable compared to a lot of colored pencils.
Excellent colored pencil for painting

I use a number of different colored pencil brands when painting. I love coloursoft pencils for laying out large areas of creamy color. They are NOT the pencil for detailing as they are very soft, but as long as you are aware of that, they are wonderful!

These are nice pencils to color with. The core is soft and lays down well.Be aware however, that these pencils re larger around than most colored pencils, so a standard sharpener will not work with them. A sharpener with a larger bore hole is needed.
Derwent soft core pencils
These are beautiful pencils. I was only able to buy a few colors on my budget but they are very nice. Received very fast.

Drehend Coloursoft pencils
By Aunt Sadie
from St. Louis, MO
I ordered about 20 open stock pencils. 5 of them had the leads broken. It wasn't just the tips, it was the whole end down past the wood. At first, I figured it was just my bad luck, but I also noted that they were very poorly packaged. Other pencils I have ordered have had the tips protected. These pencils were just in the thin plastic bag and stuck in a padded envelope, which didn't seem very padded, and the tips were at the opening end of the envelope where the padding is thinnest. The ones I got before had something wrapped around the ends. When I sharpened the first one and saw how short it looked compared to the other new ones, I decided to make a call. The person that I dealt with one the phone was very friendly, which automatically made me less irritated. Then she said the pencils would be replaced and that I didn't have to mail the other ones back. This made me even happier because I wasn't going to have to pack them up and make a trip to the post office (which I hate doing). The replacement pencils arrived less that a week later and were in perfect shape. You don't always know what you're getting into when you order online, and it's nice to know that I can recommend Dick Blick to everyone based on quality, price, and customer service!
Novice Colorer - Encouraged with this set!
I am just begin to color because I am just beginning to have free time after 40 years of teaching. These pencils are a good step up for me from my classroom set of colored pencils like Crayola, etc. They seem just soft enough to lay down a moderate amount of color without a lot of pressure and seem to build up nicely. For the price, I am quite satisfied. A good starter set for me.
Great color pencils

Derwent Coloursoft colored pencils 72 pieces. Very Nice set
By Christy the colouring addict
I really like these colored pencils. They blend nicely and the colors are very nice. They really look nice when using 2 or 3 different colors to make a variegated flower. So pretty. I've used them on the last 2 pictures I've colored and am happy with them so far. They seem to sharpen easily and I haven't had any breakage yet. Just wish I'd have waited as I noticed they now are less expensive than when I ordered mine a couple weeks ago. If I didn't already have so many different types of colored pencils I would buy them again right now, but I'm running out of storage space.
