I have used this sketchbook for a wide range of media applications. I like the way the surface accepts dry media such as Conte crayon, charcoal, and hard pastel. With the exception of Sharpie Ultra fine point markers, I have found that wet applications tend to warp the paper, i.e., watercolors, etc. Other than that, this is a workhorse of a sketchbook and a good travel companion. I LOVE this notebook. If I could give it a zillion stars, I would. I just recently stepped out and tried another notebook (the horrid Bee) and I've come crawling back to Canson with even more appreciation for its singular qualities. Specifically, it has a nice, understated cover that doesn't look cheesy or call attention to itself (the sticker comes easily).

The paper itself is FANTASTIC! It appears to be genuine cold-press watercolor paper, and is thick and lovely. It appears to be much thicker than 90 pounds, and holds up well for all kinds of media: pencil, charcoal, pastel (oil and soft), watercolors, fluid acrylics, ink washes, and watercolor pencil. It accepts quite a bit of wet media with a minimum of buckling. The only thing it is not suited for is marker (i.e. Copics), which really soaks into the paper and bleeds to the other side.

For me, it's been the perfect book that gives great results for almost anything I want to do.
